WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, now available on Digital HD.

John Constantine's bisexuality has been known since the '90s, but that part of his character recently became more mainstream due to his romance with Desmond and hook-ups with Sara Lance in Legends of Tomorrow. While he's more affiliated with Zatanna these days, and especially in the DC Animated Movie Universe, he also dated Oliver in the 2015 books.

Safe to say, no one should be shocked because that's always been the essence of the character -- someone who does what he wants and stays true to himself. However, in Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, we discover a bit more about his dating history as we meet his most dangerous ex. Interestingly, that person isn't even human, it's King Shark.

The reveal happens when Constantine, Superman, and Raven head to an underground fight club where the Suicide Squad and a bunch of other villains reside after Darkseid razed Earth. Lois Lane is fighting Harley Quinn in the hopes of getting her goons to join the resistance. But before the bout occurs, Constantine has an awkward moment where he tells Raven he didn't expect to see his ex.

She's not surprised, thinking he's talking about Harley as she views Constantine as a drunk who makes poor decisions, loves self-imploding, and just about anything else bad for his health. The camera then pans from Harley to King Shark, who gives a suggestive wink while smiling and showing off all his sharp, pearly whites. Raven isn't even freaked out by the revelation, though, because she knows this universe of demons, mutants, and metahumans has seen stranger things.

However, the moment catches viewers off-guard. Especially since the movie is based on Constantine's love for Zatanna and his pursuit of revenge for Paradooms mutilating her. Writer Mairghread Scott confirmed this was Constantine's big bisexual moment in the DCAMU, and she couldn't believe she got away with painting him as someone who literally sleeps with the fishes -- something voice actor Matt Ryan notes isn't bisexual, it's "bi-specieal." King Shark hasn't been depicted as LGBT before, so it's a big moment in the spotlight for him too. What's also interesting is Constantine actually considers dating Harley crazier than dating a killer shark.

John Constantine showed his smarts in "Apokolips War."

With this relationship confirmed, one has to wonder where in the timeline it happened. Could it have been during the two years after Zatanna died on Apokolips? We've only really seen Constantine hung up on Zatanna in the DCAMU, so it's possible this relationship happened way before that and is, therefore, a chapter we're not going to witness because this film ends this universe of animated movies. That said, it's funny and pretty endearing to see King Shark on good terms with the openly bisexual occult superhero. He doesn't want to eat Constantine, and given the sorcerer's prolific string of romantic interests across his decades-long career in comics, animation, and live-action, we get the feeling not all his exes have the same diplomatic attitude towards him.

Justice League Dark: Apokolips War stars Matt Ryan as John Constantine, Jerry O'Connell as Superman, Taissa Farmiga as Raven, Stuart Allan as Robin, Tony Todd as Darkseid, Jason O'Mara as Batman, Rosario Dawson as Wonder Woman, Shemar Moore as Cyborg, Christopher Gorham as the Flash, Rebecca Romijn as Lois Lane and Rainn Wilson as Lex Luthor. The film is out on Digital HD and arrives on Blu-ray May 19.
