WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, now available on Digital HD.

Darkseid's Female Furies are one of Apokolips's most fearsome forces, acting as the hounds of war for the despot. First appearing in 1972's Mister Miracle #6 from writer/artist Jack Kirby and letterer Gaspar Saladino, the Furies are fanatics trained by Granny Goodness to become the planet's elite strike force. They're unleashed when attacking the likes of Earth or dispatched to retrieve secret targets, but they're mostly kept as the first line of defense at home in the fiery pits of Apokolips. While the team's purpose remains the same in Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, the animated movie drastically changes the lineup by using fallen heroes to replenish Darkseid's elite.

A depowered Superman has rallied Raven, Constantine, Damian Wayne and Etrigan to his side as part of a covert ops team to infiltrate Apokolips. With Darkseid off conquering Oa, Lois Lane, Lex Luthor and Harley Quinn's Suicide Squad are holding off the Paradooms (Parademon/Doomsday hybrids) at Lex's tower on Earth, hoping to teleport the team back home. As for their mission, it's to destroy Apokolips' reactor so Darkseid won't have his war planet anymore and will no longer have a means of getting across the cosmos.

However, when the team arrives, immediately they're met by the Furies. They're no longer an all-female team, because in the DC Animated Movie Universe, Granny Goodness's team has already perished. Instead, Darkseid's new kill-squad consists of warped versions of heroes his Paradooms mangled at the beginning of the film.

When Superman first brought the League over, they were ambushed because Darkseid tapped into Cyborg's mind and sussed out the plan. Here, an enslaved Batman in the Mobius Chair has picked up on what's happening after sensing a power surge from Lex's tower. He realizes Lex is lying about being loyal to Apokolips and sends the Furies out.

Wonder Woman's the new leader of this team, and after her arm was ripped off, she's now a cybernetic hybrid with a robotic eye and a mechanical shield. Mera's also present, with her body turned into a mechanical sea serpent. Her face, which was squashed by Paradooms, is meshed in with robotics, and she's controlling water and turning it into icicles like Killer Frost.

Hawkman is also there, but he's mostly a robot with a screeching hawk's call since most of his body was torn apart by Paradooms. The same applies for Starfire and Martian Manhunter, the latter of which has a cyber-body similar to Darth Maul. He uses his arm alone to shape-shift into monstrous appendages, including a dragon heads.

It's a unique take on the team since until now they've been organic beings; however, Darkseid has used Batman's genius as well as Cyborg's body to create this new force. He retrofitted and repurposed Vic to create these new cyborg Furies, who are more durable, faster and stronger. Wonder Woman's the most lethal aberration, killing Etrigan, as she no longer has any semblance of humanity within her. They're all mindless, disfigured soldiers, but Constantine adapts to use "technomagic" to debug Vic, and this frees the Furies so they can head to the citadel for the final battle against their slave masters.
