WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Justice League #34 by Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, Bruno Redondo, Howard Porter, Hi-Fi and Tom Napolitano, on sale now.

2015's Justice League: The Darkseid War changed everything we thought we knew about the greatest evil in the DC Multiverse: the Anti-Monitor. At first, the villain appeared as an all-powerful cosmic entity whose sole purpose was to destroy life. He was just this gigantic, armored, unstoppable force. However, Darkseid War pulled the curtain back on the character and revealed the man who was underneath it all. We came to learn that, before becoming the Anti-Monitor, the character was named Mobius -- the first owner of Metron's Mobius Chair.

During Darkseid War, the cosmic villain managed to separate himself from the source of his power, the Anti-Life Equation. After that, the Anti-Monitor was, for all intents and purposes, gone, making him Moribus once more. For the past few months, the Justice League title has revealed even more about Morbius. While we knew he was linked to the Monitor, we eventually learned that he his also brother to the World Forger, and the three call the cosmic goddess Perpetua their mother.

In Justice League #32, Mobius returned and surprised everyone when, instead of fighting alongside his villainous mother, he chose team up with the titular superhero team. Then, in issue #33, to battle their mother, the Monitor, Mobius and the World Forger all fused together to create the Ultra-Monitor, the only being powerful enough to take on Perpetua. The fight between mother and sons rages on in Justice League #34. However, things take a terrible turn, with Perpetua restoring Anti-Monitor to his evil ways.

Unfortunately, the League in both the past and present isn't fast enough. The cosmic scales of the universe finally tip towards doom, and Perpetua gains the upper hand. Now at full power, she stops the fight by reaching into the Ultra-Monitor. She addresses Mobius directly, and offers to restore to him the power of Anti-Life. The Ultra-Monitor is defeated when the entity bursts with energy... and the Anti-Monitor rises once more. The being we came to know as Mobius is now gone, replaced by the gigantic, armored Anti-Monitor we have seen ever since his first appearance in Crisis on Infinite Earths.
