When people think of the Justice League, they think of heroes like Superman, Batman, or Wonder Woman first and foremost and then others like the Flash, Green Lantern, or Aquaman. However, there's a name they should think of that they don't and it's one of the most important names in League history- Martian Manhunter. One of the founding members of the team, there have been Justice League rosters without him but they were missing something important.

One of the most powerful heroes in the DC Universe, Martian Manhunter is also one of the most trusted and looked up to. There are few beings who can stand against him one on one. This list is going to pit him against the greatest heroes of the Marvel Universe. Which ones would he defeat? Which ones would defeat him?

10 Would Lose To: Doctor Strange

Master of the mystic arts, Doctor Strange is the most powerful sorcerers around. Armed with many magical artifacts and a near unprecedented knowledge of magic, there are few who can stand up to eldritch abilities. Dark gods, demons, and monsters all quail at the mention of Doctor Strange.

Knowing magic is basically being able to hack reality. Strange could defend himself against all of Martian Manhunter's attacks and would eventually be able to take him down.

9 Would Defeat: Hulk

A rage-filled Hulk surrounded by smoke in Marvel Comics

The Incredible Hulk is the strongest one there is. With a strength potential that is infinite, fighting the Hulk is a dangerous proposition as the longer the fight goes on, the madder and stronger Hulk gets.

First off, Martian Manhunter is stronger than Hulk at a base level. Secondly, he can go invisible and intangible and avoid all of Hulk's attacks. Third, he's much faster and can fly. On top of that, he can use his telepathy to keep Hulk from getting too angry... or just to shut him down.

8 Would Lose To: Jean Grey

Jean Grey using her telepathy

A titanically powerful telepath and telekinetic superhero, Jean Grey is one of the most powerful mutants on the face of the planet. Second only to Charles Xavier when it comes to telepathic might, her telekinesis is so powerful that she can shatter mountains and her control is so fine she can manipulate molecules.

As powerful a telepath as Martian Manhunter is, he can't really stand against Jean Grey. She could trap him in his own mind, stopping him from doing anything in the physical world and giving her time to figure out his weakness to fire and use it against him.

7 Would Defeat: Invisible Woman

The most powerful member of the Fantastic Four, the Invisible Woman can do way more than just turn invisible. Able to control invisible energy, she can use it to form all kinds of invisible constructs, making her like a Green Lantern that can't be seen.

Unfortunately for Sue, Martian Manhunter's telepathy would allow him to find her. Then, it would be simple thing for him to turn invisible and intangible, get close to her, and knock her out with one punch.

6 Would Lose To: Hyperion

Marvel Comic's Hyperion standing on a pile of burning rubble.

The Marvel version of Superman, there are multiple versions of Hyperion throughout the Marvel Multiverse and all of them are amazingly powerful. In some universes, Hyperion has killed all of the heroes and villains and one version of the hero crossed over to the 616 Marvel Universe, joining the Avengers and helping them battle the Builders, the Beyonders, and Thanos.

Hyperion's power levels are on par with those of Superman and while J'onn has some extra powers that even things up, Hyperion's heat vision would be all he needed to take down Martian Manhunter.

5 Would Defeat: The Sentry

The Sentry flying past the Statue Of Liberty in Marvel comics

One of the most powerful beings on Earth, the Sentry has had a complicated superheroic career. A former drug addict who gained his powers from injecting a formula he found in a lab he was robbing, the Sentry would become a superhero and work with the heroes of the Marvel Universe. However, the dark side of his personality would manifest as the Void, a world ending threat that would force the heroes to erase his memory. His memory would return and he would have to balance himself between giving into his darkest urges and being a hero.

The Sentry is phenomenally powerful, but he has a weakness to telepathic attack. Martian Manhunter would take advantage of this, using his mental might to guarantee the win against the Sentry.

4 Would Lose To: The Vision

VISION - Hero Pose

Created by the mad android Ultron, the Vision was supposed to be his secret weapon against the Avengers. However, the Vision overcame his programming and joined the team, becoming one of its most stalwart members.

Being an android, Martian Manhunter's mental powers wouldn't work against the Vision. J'onn is definitely stronger than the Vision but seeing as how both of them can turn intangible, that doesn't really matter. This fight would be a tense game of cat and mouse, but the Vision would win for a simple reason- his solar energy blasts would allow him to set fires around J'onn. He could herd J'onn using the fire and then take him out with a well timed blast.

3 Would Defeat: Human Torch

The youngest member of the Fantastic Four, Johnny Storm is the team's resident hothead and he has the powers to match. Able to generate and control fire, the Human Torch is a dangerous opponent.

Human Torch's powers are Martian Manhunter's greatest weakness and on paper it seems like he should be able to take J'onn down. However, J'onn's telepathy would cloud Johnny's mind and give J'onn enough breathing room to take Human Torch down with his energy vision.

2 Would Lose To: Thor

The God of Thunder, Thor was already one of the most powerful Avengers but now he's also the Herald of Galactus. That gives him access to the Power Cosmic, boosting his power to near incalculable levels. Add to that the power of the hammer of Mjolnir and Thor is one of the most formidable beings in any universe.

Thor just has too much power for J'onn to deal with. Even before his recent power upgrade Thor would have defeated J'onn, but now with the added might of the Power Cosmic? Martian Manhunter doesn't stand a chance.

1 Would Defeat: Iron Man

Tony Stark is one of the smartest men on the planet. Building his first suit Iron Man armor with a near fatal injury and barely any access to modern tech, he's spent years using his engineering expertise to refine the design and become a more formidable hero. One of the linchpins of the Avengers, Iron Man is always on the forefront of the war against evil.

Martian Manhunter could go intangible and pass through all of Iron Man's attacks. He's much, much faster and stronger than Iron Man, allowing him to quickly close the distance between the two and pound the armor into submission. Martian Manhunter is just way too powerful for Iron Man and that's not even bringing his telepathy into the contest.
