WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Justice League #44 by Robert Venditti, Xermanico, Romulo Fajardo Jr. and Tom Napolitano, available now.

In Justice League #44, Aquaman runs into a legion of mythological creatures in Antarctica and does his best to hold the powerful beasts at bay. However, given the unbelievable danger at hand, the King of Atlantis has no choice but to call in for reinforcements. Soon, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, the Flash and Green Lantern are en route down south to help Arthur in his mission. And even though most of the team is made up of individuals who have the ability to fly or run at super-speed, they opt to travel together as a team.

While the DCEU's Justice League used the Flying Fox to travel together, Justice League #44 features the return of a DC Animated Universe staple as the team of superheroes flies to Antarctica aboard a jet called the Javelin, much like they did in Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. However, this new version of the aircraft doesn't last very long.

In Justice League: The Animated Series and Justice League Unlimited, the superheroes of the DCAU primarily traveled as a team in a ship called the Javelin. The ship was created by Batman and allows the team to travel from the depths of the ocean to the farthest reaches of space. On top of being heavily armored, it was also equipped with various weapons like laser blasters. As the ranks of the team grew, an entire fleet of these ships was eventually available to take multiple teams to various locations simultaneously.

The inclusion of the Javelin in Justice League #44 is also noteworthy considering the issue features a team roster that closely resembles that of the original Justice League animated series. In fact, Batman, Superman, Flash, Wonder Woman and John Stewart's Green Lantern were all on the cartoon's version of the team. And while Hawkgirl and Martian Manhunter are missing in this issue, another classic Justice League member, Aquaman, surfaces from the deep to replace them.

In this issue, the Javelin gets a slight redesign that makes it even sleeker and aerodynamic, and the team uses it to reach Antarctica in very little time. However, it's unfortunate that it runs right into a veritable swarm of powerful, monstrous mythological creatures. Before long, the ship is totaled, and it starts to plummet to the ground below. Fortunately for Batman and Flash -- who were still inside the Javelin -- Wonder Woman catches the aircraft before it can hit the ground. However, the shock of the impact still completely shatters the team's jet.

While this is a brief and ill-fated return for the Javelin in the issue, that doesn't necessarily mean that we've seen the last of it. Since there was eventually a whole fleet of these ships in the DCAU, the comic book version of the Justice League could also have more than one at their disposal.

Even though the heroes of the DC Universe all have their own ways to get around, the Javelin still represents a place where the team can be together, plan and bond as they get wherever they need to go. And considering how many challenges are heading the team's way soon, the League will need all of the help it can get.
