Universal Pictures has hired "The Orphanage" director J.A. Bayona to helm the sequel to its blockbuster "Jurassic World."

Franchise producer Frank Marshall made the announcement this morning on Twitter. The film is targeted for release June 22, 2018.

Colin Trevorrow, who directed "Jurassic World," won't step behind the camera for the sequel, because he's steering "Star Wars: Episode IX." He will, however, reteam with frequent collaborator Derek Connolly to write the script. He'll also executive produce the sequel alongside Steven Spielberg.

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas will reprise their roles in the sequel.

Bayona, who earned acclaim for his 2012 disaster drama "The Impossible," is now in post-production on the adaptation of "A Monster Calls," starring Liam Neeson, Felicity Jones and Sigourney Weaver.
