The latest photos from the set of Colin Trevorrow's Jurassic World: Dominion reveals a franchise-first setting that will take the series to snowier climes. With the final scene of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom teasing a change of direction for Jurassic World: Dominion, Trevorrow has already amped up this idea with the short movie, Jurassic World: Battle at Big Rock. Even though Battle of Big Rock showed the potential of a wider "Jurassic" world and explored some new locales for the dinosaurs, it's clear Jurrasic World: Dominion will be even more different from what's come before.RELATED: Jurassic World: Battle at Big Rock Is a Great Sign of What's to ComePosting on Twitter, Amblin Entertainment shared a shot of Trevorrow working on Jurassic World: Dominion. The caption explains how the director is taking the Jurassic franchise in a new direction and will be exploring somewhere a little colder than the islands of Costa Rica. There isn't much to gather from the photo, but the caption does make a point to call out the inclusion of Maisie Lockwood, played by Isabella Sermon.

While Fallen Kingdom set Maisie up for a larger part in the next movie, it's unclear how her story will factor into the main arc and whether she'll reunite with major players like Owen Grady and Claire Dearing. There's no information on where, exactly, this snowy backdrop is, or why Maisie finds herself there, but the idea of dinosaurs in the snow isn't anything the franchise has explored before.

The action of the first five movies has been largely confined to the Isla Islands, and apart from the odd trip to San Diego or the Lockwood Estate, the dinosaurs have been contained by the human race. The whole idea of Jurassic World: Dominion tackling a snowy setting also takes a leaf out of Jumanji: The Next Level's book, in so far as Jake Kasdan's popular sequel was also part of a long-running franchise that broke with its traditional jungle setting to head to a snow-covered climate.

Just like Universal's original trilogy, the Jurassic World movies have continued to reinvent themselves and push the concept further each time. Jurassic World: Dominion is a melding of two distinct eras as Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will rub shoulders with OG franchise leads Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, and Sam Neill. With the snowy scenery hinting the story and dinosaurs will go further than ever from the ashes of John Hammond's original park, Jurassic World: Dominion looks like it will conclude the epic saga with something new.

Directed by Colin Trevorrow, Jurassic World: Dominion stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Chris Pratt, Jake Johnson and Omar Sy along with Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum from the Jurassic Park trilogy. The film is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on June 11, 2021.
