In the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, numerous films have had to shutter production or see their release dates pushed back, sometimes repeatedly. One of the biggest films to halt production was Jurassic World: Dominion, but according to director Colin Trevorrow, this was actually beneficial.

"For many of us, Dominion was already the biggest creative challenge of our lives, before the lockdown," Trevorrow told Empire. "The shooting schedule really worked to our advantage – the first four weeks we put to film were mostly sequences with dinosaurs in them. So that allowed us to get a head start on VFX and workshop some of the newer elements without the pressure of a looming deadline."

Dominion recently resumed production, with Universal Pictures spending $5 million in health and safety protocols for the set. However, while Trevorrow acknowledged the pandemic would pose a challenge, he had nothing but praise for his cast and crew. "We’re all fired up to get back to work," he said. "This is what we do, and we’re all eager to get back out there and do it."

Directed and co-written by Colin Trevorrow, Jurassic World: Dominion also stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Chris Pratt, Jake Johnson, Omar Sy, Justice Smith, Daniella Pineda, Mamoudou Athie, DeWanda Wise and Dichen Lachman. The film arrives in theaters June 11, 2021.
