Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow has revealed if he would be interested in returning to the Star Wars universe following his dismissal from Star Wars Episode IX.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, the director appeared hesitant about venturing back to a galaxy far, far away. "I don't know," Trevorrow said. "Not because of Star Wars, but because I've spent 8 or 9 [years] making new versions of the things we love when we were kids. You know? In one place or another. There's not just a lot of pressure on that, but it also casts a shadow over everything else that you want to do… I made a small film after Jurassic World, and I was the 'Director of Star Wars' when I made it. And I think to be able to step out of that a little bit and not having everything I do be in the context of our belief systems is interesting to me." The "small film" Trevorrow is referring to in his interview is 2017's The Book of Henry.

Trevorrow's history with Star Wars began in Aug. 2015 when Lucasfilm announced that he would write and direct the then-untitled Star Wars Episode IX. Trevorrow worked with frequent collaborator Derek Connolly on the Episode IX script, which they titled Star Wars: Duel of the Fates. However, Trevorrow parted from the project in Sept. 2017 over "creative differences" with Lucasfilm. J.J. Abrams, who directed 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens, was hired later that month as Trevorrow's replacement. Episode IX was released in theaters in Dec. 2019 as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

The Rise of Star Wars on TV

Following the conclusion of The Skywalker Saga, Lucasfilm has focused on expanding the Star Wars galaxy through television series instead of theatrical films. The Mandalorian was the first live-action Star Wars series to debut, premiering on Disney+ in 2019. The Book of Boba Fett followed in 2020 with Andor, a prequel series to the 2016 film Rogue One, set to premiere later in August. Lucasfilm is also working on an Ahsoka spinoff series with Rosario Dawson reprising her role from previous live-action Star Wars series as the titular Jedi. Additional series in various stages of development include The Acolyte, Lando and Skeleton Crew. All the Star Wars series are expected to premiere exclusively on Disney+

Trevorrow has already lined up his next directing effort. He will helm War Magician, a historical war film about British illusionist Jasper Maskelyne, who used magic to defeat the Nazis in World War II. Benedict Cumberbatch will star as Jasper Maskelyne. No release date has been set for War Magician at this time.
