Much like a certain mosquito in Steven Spielberg's 1993 sci-fi adventure, Jurassic Park 4 has been suspended. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal Pictures has decided to hit the pause button on the fourth film in the rejuvenated dinosaur franchise.
“In coordination with filmmakers, Universal has decided to release Jurassic Park 4 at a later date giving the studio and filmmakers adequate time to bring audiences the best possible version of the fourth installment in Universal’s beloved franchise,” the studio said in a statement.
Said filmmakers include Safety Not Guaranteed director Colin Trevorrow who is working on a new version of the script with writing partner Derek Connolly. Before Trevorrow signed on, there was a script penned by Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa of Rise of the Planet of the Apes fame. THR says Universal only received the new draft of the script a few days ago, which screwed up the original plan to begin shooting on June 24 of this year for a June 2014 release.
