The critics' consensus for the series reads, "Despite some truly epic fights, Jupiter's Legacy is simply too overstuffed and slow-moving to land many narrative punches." Liam Nolan's review for CBR expresses many of the common criticisms of Netflix's Jupiter's Legacy, comparing the show unfavorably to the original comic by Mark Millar and Frank Quitely, describing it as "a meandering, anemic attempt at a deconstructionist superhero tale."

Polygon's Samantha Nelson writes, "The characters spend eight episodes delivering monologues on 'things used to be black and white, but now they're shades of gray' while offering the most black-and-white solutions: Do nothing, or take over the world." Dan Feinberg of The Hollywood Reporter felt the storytelling was confusing, stating, "Throughout, I kept feeling like I'd missed key pieces of plot or character development and I kept checking to see if I'd skipped episodes."

Even the more positive reviews for Jupiter's Legacy are not particularly enthusiastic, praising the series' concept but noting this first season doesn't measure up to its potential or to the quality of recent superhero TV series like Invincible or The Boys. Josh Wilding's review for ComicBookMovie.com says, "Jupiter's Legacy 'Volume 1' feels like a prologue to a much better series, but there are some fresh ideas to be found here, and a great cast mostly helps to elevate a disjointed story to not quite super, but still heroic levels."

Norman Wilner's mixed review for NOW Toronto is counted as "Fresh" but could easily be mistaken for "Rotten," describing major plotlines as "impossibly muddled" and comparing the show unfavorably to Invincible, Amazon Prime's recent adults-only superhero animated series which currently has a score of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Netflix's Jupiter's Legacy stars Josh Duhamel as The Utopian, Ben Daniels as Brain-Wave, Leslie Bibb as Lady Liberty, Elena Kampouris as Chloe Sampson, Andrew Horton as Brandon Sampson, Mike Wade as The Flare, Anna Akana as Raikou and Matt Lanter as Skyfox. The series is now streaming on Netflix.
