Although we’re no closer than we were a week ago to knowing what character she’ll play, Variety now confirms that Juno Temple has joined The Dark Knight Rises.
The 21-year-old actress, who appeared in Year One and Kaboom, was reported last Friday to be considered “for a supporting role as a street-smart Gotham girl,” sparking speculation that she’d be cast as everyone from Holly Robinson to Batgirl to Stephanie Brown to a Carrie Kelley-like Robin.
Given the influence of Batman: Year One on director Christopher Nolan’s Batman films, and the inclusion of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises, Holly seems the most likely. She’s the young prostitute who lived with Selina Kyle in the Frank Miller-David Mazzucchelli story arc and who, in more recent years, assumed the mantle of Catwoman.
Most likely, sure. But if we’ve learned anything it’s that it’s difficult to predict in which direction Nolan will go. Temple could just as easily end up being one of those other candidates, or just, as the vague description says, “a street-smart Gotham girl” who pops up for a couple of key scenes.
She joins a cast that so far includes Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and, apparently, Joseph Gordon-Levitt — whom we’re now told is not Alberto Falcone. The Dark Knight Rises begins filming in April for release on July 20, 2012.
