Sony Pictures has released a new trailer for Jumanji: The Next Level, a sequel to 2017's Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.

The sequel has the teenage protagonists of the previous film re-enter the video game world of Jumanji to rescue their friend Spencer after he's lost inside the immersive reality. As the friends resume control of their respective avatars within the game, they find it has changed significantly since the last time they played.

The upcoming film is the third installment in the Jumanji franchise, which began with the 1995 fantasy adventure film starring Robin Williams, Kirsten Dunst, Bonnie Hunt and Bradley Pierce. Jumanji introduced the magical board game that unleashed villainous hunters, vicious animals and warped entire environments as it was played. The sequel turned the board game into a video game and introduced entirely new characters to the franchise. After Welcome to the Jungle earned $962 million worldwide in 2017, a sequel was quickly greenlit and put into production.

Jumanji: The Next Level will hit theaters on Dec. 13. Jake Kasdan returns to direct the movie which stars Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Karen Gillan, Danny DeVito, Danny Glover, Alex Wolff, Ser’Darius Blain, Madison Iseman and Morgan Turner.
