The original Jumanji, released in 1995 and starring Robin Williams and Kirsten Dunst, was based on the 1981 novel of the same name by Chris Van Allsburg. It was followed up with two attempts to expand the franchise: an animated series titled Jumanji, which ran for three years, and Zathura: A Space Adventure, which was based on a sequel novel by Van Allsburg.

The upcoming Jumanji sequel is directed by Jake Kasdan and co-written by Kasdan, Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinker. It is expected to hit theaters on December 13.
