10 Julius was born in the Noble Realm
Julius believes all humans in the Clover Kingdom are equal, a unique perspective shared by only a few other Magic Knights. He doesn't care for class or your family name, only that you contribute to a better world. With this information, some fans believed that Julius may have been a peasant himself.
However, although not a main focus of the show, the Wizard King is, in fact, a noble. Born into the noble realm, Julis joined the Magic Knights aged 15, and the rest is history.
9 His First Squad Was The Grey Deer
After successfully passing the Magic Knights exam, Julius joined the Grey Deer squad. Currently known as the Aqua Deer to fans of the show, Julius's squad possessed a number of notable characters. At some point, the Wizard King was chosen to lead the squad.
As Captain, Julius recruited Yami Sukehiro, current captain of the Black Bulls. Despite Yami being a foreigner who was ostracized by the kingdom, Julus recognized his potential. The two grew close and their friendship is a highlight of the show.
8 He Is A Master Of Disguise
Julius and his time magic are known to all. It's his mastery of this ability that resulted in him becoming the Wizard King. But he isn't just limited to this magic type. As expected for talent as great as Julius, he can do a variety of things. One of these is transformation magic.
Throughout the show, fans think they're watching a minor, unimportant person briefly stumble into the life of one of the main characters. However, quite often viewers have fallen victim to a magnificent Julius disguise. His transformations allow him to shirk his duties as King and freely observe the diverse magic that surrounds him.
7 He Was Inspired By Zara Ideale
Surprising to some viewers, Julius Novachrono didn't always want to become Wizard King. As a Royal Knight, he was happy in his role as it allowed him to satisfy his obsession with magic and meet powerful mages in the process.
However, Zara Ideale changed all that. As the first peasant to become a Royal Knight, Zara motivated Julius to change the kingdom he had grown to dislike. The Magic Knight demonstrated to Julius that class is an obstacle that can be overcome, so Julius began his quest to become Wizard King. And it was all thanks to Zara.
6 His Magical Knowledge Is Extensive
As expected from the giant nerd, Julius possesses an incredible amount of magical knowledge, far surpassing that of the Magic Knights Captains. After Yuno gains a new power during the investigation of a dungeon, Julius immediately recognizes this as the wind spirit Sylph, despite the fact that Yuno knew very little about the power himself or how to even control it.
Additionally, the Wizard King managed to decipher an ancient magical item designed by the very first Wizard King over 500 years ago. But even Julius has his limits, such as when he was surprised by Asta's anti-magic sword.
5 He Is Always Honest
One of the many qualities that make Julius so popular amongst fans of the show is his honesty. When Asta and Yuno ask him what it takes to become the Wizard King, Julius's response is to the point.
It doesn't matter how hard you work or how kind you are, in order to be recognized by all, you must build up achievements to demonstrate your superior ability. Although sometimes difficult to hear, Julius is aware that this approach strengthens bonds and results in the explicit trust of the Magic Knights.
4 He Will Kill If Necessary
Don't let his happy-go-lucky attitude deceive you, Julius can be ruthless when required. Throughout the anime, the Wizard King demonstrates kindness, compassion, and forgiveness. Even when fighting Patolli, Julius preferred to capture him alive in order to save William's body.
However, this doesn't mean that he is soft. When the Eye of The Midnight Sun attacked the kingdom and captured Asta, in the blink of an eye Julius killed two members of the terrorist organization. The man is willing to take a life in order to save those he cares about.
3 His Grimoire Is Unique
For the majority of the anime, Julius' grimoire was a mystery, never seen by fans. During his first fight with the Eye Of The Midnight Sun, Julius appears to be using magic without his grimoire.
However, when Julius fights Patolli, viewers find out that Julius' grimoire is kept well above his head. Additionally, the book possesses no front or back, suggesting that just like time, there is no beginning or end. Furthermore, the grimoire is huge and contains thousands of pages. Not surprising considering his obsession with magic.
2 His Name Is Appropriate
The Wizard King has one of the best names in all of anime. However, Yuki Tabata, the creator of Black Clover, didn't just select it at random. The surname Novachrono is made up of two separate meanings; Nova meaning "new" in Latin, and Chrono meaning "time" in Greek.
A perfect name for someone who can control, steal and manipulate time. And this doesn't just apply to Julius. Several characters have names reflective of their abilities, magic, and personality. It just so happens that Novachrono sounds incredibly cool.
1 His Current Grimoire Consists Of A Single Page
Thanks to the time Julius stored over the years, he returned from death as a 13-year-old boy. The Wizard King is shorter with longer hair and his regal outfit no longer fits. Despite these drastic physical changes, Julius retains his adult personality, remaining carefree yet as immensely competent as before.
However, Julius's grimoire experienced a significant change. Previously consisting of thousands of pages, his magical book is now made up of only a single page. Fans aren't entirely sure what this means, but there's a chance Julius is significantly weaker than his adult self.
