Although the circumstances surrounding the new season of Dexter are undoubtedly mysterious, there's no doubting that the Showtime series is getting itself ready for a new year of killing sprees.
Fresh off the heels of yesterday's news that Julie Benz will reprise her role as the late Rita Morgan in the season's first episode comes today's announcement that Julia Stiles has joined the cast. Entertainment Weekly has the casting scoop but claims to not know who exactly Stiles is playing. Early conjecture pegs Stiles as a possible new love interest for Dexter — a tad unlikely given that this season deals with the immediate aftermath of Rita's murder — or perhaps as one of Rita's relatives. Whoever she winds up playing, newly minted showrunner Chip Johannessen revealed that Stiles won't play the season's central villain, as there are no plans to even include a central villain for the upcoming slate of episodes.
"We’re not going to have a single Big Bad this season," revealed the showrunner. "We don’t want to try and top John Lithgow, so we’re going to change up the forces that Dexter’s going to be dealing with."
