As one of the big three jujutsu families, the Zenins are in possession of a long list of powerful cursed items, weapons, and generally useful resources. This means whoever earns the right to call themselves head of the family gains access to immense wealth and power.
Considering this, it makes sense that each generation would ignore the will of their parents and battle over the right to these resources. The most current chapters of the manga see Naoya Zenin fighting for the right to steal the title of head of the family from Megumi.

Despite fathering both Mai and Maki Zenin, Ogi Zenin has yet to earn any screen time in the Jujutsu Kaisen anime. His time in the manga has been entertaining, but only because he is a despicable man through and through.
On top of mocking his daughter and nephew for leaning on their swordsmanship all while relying on a cursed technique that is enhanced by his own swordsmanship, Ogi uses his time in the manga to threaten the lives of his daughters and Megumi. His actions are deplorable and his skills are sub-par when compared to the powerful sorcerers around him, and he still has the gall to call Maki useless.
7 The Zenins Have A Habit Of Supporting Their Sorcery With Cursed Weapons
Sorcerers like Yuji Itadori and Maki Zenin demonstrate how cursed weapons can support their combat prowess, but it is rare to see powerful sorcerers rely on weapons in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen. Of course, putting a weapon in someone like Satoru Gojo's hands would be redundant, but the cursed techniques inherited by the Zenin family are naturally enhanced by armed combat.
Naoya Zenin mocks his family for using weapons despite choosing to carry a small dagger in his cloak to enhance his projection sorcery technique. Maki and Toji both mastered the art of armed combat alongside Ogi Zenin who uses the sword to enhance his Blazing Courage Technique. Even Megumi Fushiguro chooses to use a sword despite wielding the most powerful inherited technique from the Zenin bloodline.

When projection sorcery is finally animated fans will be treated to one of the coolest cursed techniques in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen. Both Naobito Zenin and Naoya Zenin practice projection sorcery.
This cursed technique allows its user to break each second up into a sequence of 24 movements. The explanation may sound confusing, but in practice, Projection Sorcery simply makes its user extremely fast. The technique does not have much history in the Zenin family, but it is so powerful that both practitioners managed to climb to the top of the family until Megumi mastered the Ten Shadows Technique.
5 Toji Fushigiro Sets The Bar For Physical Strength In The World Of Jujutsu Sorcery
Toji Fushiguro is introduced in the arc that follows immediately after the Death Painting Arc, which wraps up the first season of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime. Megumi's father is hinted at in the anime, but it isn't until the manga flashes back to Gojo's time as a student at Tokyo Jujutsu High that JJK readers get to meet Toji.
Much like Maki Zenin, Toji is unable to see cursed energy or cursed spirits. In exchange for cursed energy, Toji was blessed with supernatural speed, strength, and agility. His power is so impressive that he was able to defeat Satoru Gojo in a battle of strength, though it should be noted that Gojo was only in high school at the time.
4 Megumi's Ancestor Proved That Ten Shadows Is As Powerful As Gojo's Six Eyes & Limitless Cursed Techniques
In chapter 117 of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, Megumi experiences a flashback that shows Gojo sensei explaining just how powerful the Ten Shadows technique truly is. According to Gojo, the Zenin and Gojo families are at odds today because of a duel between the two heads of each family generations ago that resulted in both members' deaths.
Gojo uses this story to guide Megumi toward the idea that he could one day surpass his teacher's strength, though Megumi remains skeptical.
3 They Keep A Dungeon Full Of Cursed Spirits In Their Basement
Just like any overconfident family of jujutsu sorcerers would, the Zenin family keeps a dungeon full of cursed spirits in their basement. Though it is used by Ogi Zenin to trap Mai and Maki in the most recent manga chapters, it is most likely used as a training ground on a regular basis.
The fact that the Zenin family is harboring cursed spirits instead of eliminating them is proof of their irresponsibility as jujutsu sorcerers. While Satoru Gojo is risking his life to eliminate cursed spirits, the Zenins are giving them a safe place to reside until they decide to destroy them.
2 They Measure A Man's Worth By Their Children's Strength
The Zenin family is the perfect example of how toxic patriarchy can be. When Ogi Zenin explains the reason Naobito was chosen as the head of the family over himself, he blames his daughters for their uselessness despite the fact that Maki is incredibly useful in combat and Mai is literally able to create objects from nothing but cursed energy.
Ogi on the other hand is well outmatched by Naobito's Projection Sorcery Technique, which guides fans to the real reason he was not chosen as head of the family. He is simply not the most powerful member of the family or even the eldest male.
1 Megumi Is The New Head Of The Zenin Clan
The most recent chapters of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga shows Megumi reluctantly taking over as the head of the Zenin Clan. Despite carrying the name of his mother, Megumi inherited the most powerful technique passed down by the Zenin family and therefore earned the respect of Naobito Zenin, the former clan head.
On top of this, Megumi has already established a powerful relationship with the head of the Gojo family and the future head of the Kamo family. Though Naoya may not like it, Megumi is the best choice for the position, although it could have been nice to see Maki inherit the title.
