Every year there are new anime series that catch on in major ways, but Jujutsu Kaisen and Pokémon are two series from separate generations that are currently some of the biggest anime on television. Jujutsu Kaisen applies dark, horror sensibilities to standard shonen tropes and Yuji Itadori is a phenomenal jujutsu sorcerer, but still a teenager who has a lot to learn.
Chaotic battles and Yuji’s development have helped make Jujutsu Kaisen one of 2021’s biggest hits, and its popularity isn’t disappearing anytime soon. Yuji has handled powerful cursed spirits in Jujutsu Kaisen, but Pokémon also contains some surprisingly powerful and dangerous creatures, some of which could truly challenge Yuji.
10 CAN DEFEAT: Tyrantrum Is A Literal Pokémon Dinosaur & Still No Match For Yuji
There are dangerous and intimidating Pokémon that get introduced in each new generation, but Tyrantrum is one of the more ferocious creatures to come around. The Dragon and Rock-type Pokémon from Generation VI’s Kalos region is a menace to its own kind, but any of Yuji’s cursed energy maneuvers like Divergent Fist would quickly take out Tyrantrum. A beast of this nature actually feels like the type of obstacle that Yuji would face in Jujutsu Kaisen. Tyrantrum packs a heavy punch, but Yuji is nimble and resourceful enough that Tyrantrum would soon be extinct.
9 CAN'T DEFEAT: Kyogre Controls The World’s Water & Could Permanently Submerge Yuji
Each Legendary Pokémon that is introduced has incredible abilities, and they’re often given a certain theme that’s fundamental to the balance of the planet. Kyogre is Generation III’s Water-type Legendary Pokémon, and it’s given complete dominion over the planet’s water. Kyogre can rise or lower ocean levels and flood Earth if it truly wanted. Yuji is technically more powerful when it comes to physical attacks, and his cursed energy would likely overwhelm Kyogre, but the Pokémon has the ability to make Yuji’s environment utterly inhospitable.
8 CAN DEFEAT: Gengar’s Ghostly Antics Wouldn’t Frighten A Jujutsu Sorcerer
Ghost-type Pokémon are some of the most fascinating creatures from the series, and Gengar is one of the most notable contributions since he’s been around since the very first Pokémon game.
Gengar is a Generation I Pokémon, but he’s remained relevant and become even more dangerous after the addition of Mega Evolution and Gigantamax forms. Ghost Pokémon seem like perfect targets for Yuji, and he’s had to exorcise more diabolical apparitions. Gengar seems like he’d be a training exercise for Yuji and ultimately the spirit Pokémon is more mischievous than it is genuinely deadly.
7 CAN'T DEFEAT: Rayquaza Watches Over The Earth From Above
The different Legendary Pokémon typically hold dominion over unique areas, and Rayquaza is given the lofty privilege of holding court on the planet’s air as well as the atmosphere above the planet. This Flying and Dragon-type Pokémon from Generation III can control the weather and basically use the entire planet to assault Yuji. Jujutsu sorcerers have faced some drastic dangers, but Yuji’s not at the point where he can take the battle outside of Earth’s boundaries. He might be able to irritate Rayquaza, but the Pokémon’s special attacks and defense are too substantial for it to truly get worried.
6 CAN DEFEAT: Darkrai Is A Sinister Pokémon That Thrives On Dark Energy
Darkrai is the dangerous combination of a Pokémon that’s both a Dark-type as well as a Mythical. The majority of Mythical and Legendary Pokémon are some of the most destructive creatures in the series, and Darkrai is especially intimidating. The Generation IV Pokémon can actually enter the dreams of humans and Pokémon and attack subconsciously. These sinister abilities are a lot for most Pokémon to handle, but Yuji’s temperamental possession by Sukuna is far more complex dark magic. Yuji’s experience has made him especially qualified to take out a Dark-type Pokémon like Darkrai.
5 CAN'T DEFEAT: Giratina Governs Over A Dark World That’s Full Of Prisoners
Generation IV introduces some extremely important Pokémon and Dialga and Palkia control both time and space. These Legendary Pokémon are dangerous, but the final member of the Creation Trio, Giratina, is even more destructive. Giratina is consumed by destruction and negative energy.
Giratina has its own Distortion World that it could easily banish Yuji into for all of time. Even Arceus is threatened by Giratina’s power. Giratina is a dark presence that would be resistant to all of Yuji’s attacks, and it might even give Satoru Gojo trouble.
4 CAN DEFEAT: Cofagrigus’s Haunted Tricks Won’t Hold Up Against Jujutsu Energy
Yuji Itadori and the other sorcerers in Jujutsu Kaisen face a wide array of dark entities, and so some of the more wicked Ghost-type Pokémon seem like the perfect targets. Yuji is often in situations that appear to be normal, only for cursed spirits to sneak up on him. Cofagrigus operates with a similar nature, and the Pokémon utilizes its ghostly container to frighten targets and unexpectedly attack. Cofagrigus is one of the stranger Pokémon to come around in Generation V, but it’s not much of a spiritual challenge for Yuji to conquer.
3 CAN'T DEFEAT: Zacian & Zamazenta Are Legendary Warriors With An Important Lineage
Zacian and Zamazenta are two Legendary Pokémon that debut in the latest titles, Pokémon Sword and Shield. These two Pokémon have storied histories that depict them as legendary defenders of the land that get called into action whenever their power is needed. The sense of legacy that accompanies Zacian and Zamazenta is not unlike the jujutsu sorcerers’ own past. Yuji has some valuable cursed energy tricks, but the sense of purpose that fills these Pokémon leaves them in a place where failure is impossible. If they fought together as a team, then Yuji would have zero chance of victory.
2 CAN DEFEAT: Calyrex’s Powerful Abilities Are To Heal Rather Than Destroy
The newest generation of Pokémon titles, Sword and Shield brought Pokémon over to the Nintendo Switch and several installments of DLC expansions have added much more to the Galar region. The additions that come with the Crown Tundra reveal Calyrex, a powerful Pokémon from the past that caused vegetation to grow and harvests to bloom. Calyrex is strong, but it’s largely averse to destruction. Yuji might have some issues taking on this Pokémon, but if Sukuna were in control then it wouldn’t be a problem. In many ways, Calyrex represents everything that cursed spirits resent.
1 CAN'T DEFEAT: Arceus Is The God Of All Pokémon With Unbelievable Abilities
Pokémon is now deep into Generation VIII, but all the way back in Generation IV, the series created its most important Pokémon, Arceus. Arceus is referred to as the Pokémon God since it created the Pokémon world and many of the powerful Legendary Pokémon, like the Creation Trio. Arceus can transcend space, time, and the limits of life and death. Yuji is extremely powerful, but he’s not at the level where he can defend against Arceus’ comprehensive attacks. Arceus could also just teleport away if the fight wasn’t going in its favor.
