Gege Akutami's ongoing Jujutsu Kaisen manga made its debut in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump in March 2018, and so far, it has produced 18 volumes worth of content. The story follows Yuji Itadori, a high school student, who joins a group of Jujutsu Sorcerers after he consumes one of Sukuna's cursed fingers. The series has sold over 60 million copies, making it one of the best-selling manga of all time; it featured on the New York Times bestsellers list earlier this year.

MAPPA (Attach on Titan: The Final Season) adapted the manga into an anime, which aired from Oct. 2020 to March 2021, running for 24 episodes. Sunghoo Park directed the series with Hiroshi Seko (Vinland Saga) overseeing the series composition, Tadashi Hiramatsu (Parasyte -the maxim-) designing the characters and Teppei Ito (Banana Fish) serving as director of photography. It starred Junya Enoki (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba) as Itadori, Junichi Suwabe (Fairy Tail) as Sukuna, Yūichi Nakamura (Haikyu!! To The Top) as Satoru Gojō and Asami Seto (Fena: Pirate Princess) as Nobara Kugisaki.

The anime won several awards at the 5th annual Crunchyroll Anime Awards, including Anime of the Year and Best Antagonist. Jujutsu Kaisen was also one of the most popular shows on Twitter in 2021, alongside other anime like Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and Tokyo Revengers.
