The King of Curses shares a face with Jujutsu Kaisen's main character, but thanks to Yuji's self-control fans still know very little about Ryomen Sukuna. The cursed spirit that lives inside of Jujutsu Kaisen's protagonist has been called the King of Curses. After watching Sukuna's display of strength against a special grade cursed spirit, Megumi Fushiguro, and Mahito, there's little to no reason to question this title.

Despite the fact that Ryomen Sukuna has yet to take up the role of a primary antagonist and seems to stand little to no chance against Satoru Gojo, many still fear him. The King of Curses is a mystery, which makes his malice and mission terrifying regardless of the role he plays in the current plot of Jujutsu Kaisen.

10 Sukuna's Cursed Technique Slices Up His Foes With Invisible Cleavers

Sukuna's cursed techniques are still very much a mystery to anime fans. Even manga fans are still theorizing over the King of Curses' technique. After watching Sukuna unleash his dismantle and cleave cursed techniques, fans have come to the conclusion that Sukuna's inherent technique has something to do with slicing up his opponents with cursed energy.

This cursed technique does seem fitting for someone as malicious as Sukuna, but after watching him utilize a fire based technique in the manga, fans can't be sure that cleave and dismantle are Sukuna's inherent techniques.

9 Sukuna Is Both A Human Jujutsu Sorcerer And A Cursed Spirit

Another note that Satoru Gojo makes when explaining Sukuna to Yuji is the fact that Sukuna was both a jujutsu sorcerer and a cursed spirit. In the modern world of jujutsu, this is simply unheard of.

There are those like Panda and Choso who blur the line between cursed spirit and jujutsu sorcerer, but there are none who claim to be both a living, breathing human sorcerer and a cursed spirit. Hopefully when Sukuna becomes a bigger part of the series fans will figure out just how the ancient sorcerer became a cursed spirit.

8 Sukuna's Original Form Sported Four Arms And Four Eyes

Jujutsu Kaisen's Sukuna In His True Form

When Gojo first explains the ancient threat of Ryomen Sukuna, he makes it clear that Sukuna once ruled over the world of jujutsu with four fists. That's right, Sukuna's original form had 20 fingers, four hands, and four arms. Despite the fact that Sukuna's twenty fingers are pivotal to the plot of JJK, it's still unclear how or why the ancient sorcerer had four arms in the first place.

7 Sukuna Is Able To Open A Jujutsu Vault To Access A Fire-Based Cursed Technique

JJK Manga _ Sukuna Reveals Fire Technique

During the Shibuya Incident Arc, Sukuna unveils a trick that left fans scratching their heads in confusion. When approached by the Special Grade Cursed Spirit Jogo, Sukuna opens a new fire-based cursed technique to challenge Jogo on fair grounds.

It becomes very clear that Sukuna only revealed this technique to toy with Jogo, but it further expanded upon Sukuna's mystery. It seems that the King of Curses has access to multiple cursed techniques and fans have only gotten a small taste of his full power.

6 Malevolent Shrine Houses A Set Of Teeth At Its Base

Sukuna's Malevolent Shrine in Jujutsu Kaisen's manga.

Sukuna's Cursed technique is unique when compared to other jujutsu sorcerers and cursed spirits. Instead of forming a barrier and expanding his domain within that barrier, Sukuna expands his domain over the natural world.

This might seem like a small difference, but it actually allows Sukuna to expand his technique over a much larger space than a traditional domain expansion technique. This part can be explained by heavenly restrictions, but many are still confused as to why Malevolent Shrine has a set of human teeth at its base.

5 Is Satoru's Confidence Enough To Take Down The King Of Curses?

Gojo & Sukuna

Satoru Gojo is well known for his boisterously confident personality. When Yuji asks Gojo whether he could beat Sukuna at full strength, Satoru admits that it would surely strain him, but fails to concede to the King of Curses.

Gojo's confidence is backed by a powerful set of cursed techniques, but fans should still be concerned about the inevitable Sukuna vs. Gojo fight scene. Sukuna has yet to be defeated after he went toe-to-toe with Gojo in the second episode of the anime. Satoru may have beat him once, but Sukuna had only attained 5% of his full power. When Sukuna reaches 100% of his strength, it may be a different story altogether.

4 Despite Sukuna's Strength, He Was Defeated & Sealed Inside His Own Fingers

Itadori, covered in curse markings, holds up Sukuna's finger

Sukuna is easily one of the most powerful jujutsu users in the entirety of Gege Akutami's series. The diverse set of cursed techniques at his disposal and the pure carnage of his domain expansion make him a threat to anyone who calls him their enemy.

Despite all this, Sukuna still begins this series as a rotted set of fingers. The manga has led some viewers to believe that it was Kenjaku who sealed Sukuna inside his own dismembered fingers, but fans are still left in the dark as to how and why Sukuna was defeated in his past life.

3 Do His Sealed Fingers Or His Title Have Something To Do With His Technique?

Many assume that Sukuna earned the title "King of Curses" because of the overwhelming strength he possesses. After being sealed away for generations inside his own fingers, his strength does come into question, but there may be another reason behind this specific sealing or behind his title in the first place. Perhaps the King of Curses earned his name thanks to his original cursed technique.

2 Sukuna Is Unable To Take Control Of Yuji's Body

Sukuna Possesses Itadori And Thinks To Himself In Jujutsu Kaisen

The first episode of Jujutsu Kaisen opened Gege Akutami's world of jujutsu by introducing Yuji Itadori as a supernaturally gifted high school student. After Megumi tracks Yuji and Sukuna's finger down, it becomes clear that Yuji is more than just physically gifted. The young man is kind and self-sacrificial beyond his years, but none of this explains why Sukuna was unable to control him the moment he ingested a special grade cursed item.

If Sukuna is the King of Curses, Yuji must be some sort of king himself, because it makes no sense for the most powerful jujutsu sorcerer/cursed spirit to be rejected by an unnaturally strong 9th grader.

1 Ryomen Sukuna Is Not The Only Sorcerer Who Lives From The Golden Age Of Jujutsu Sorcery

Geto _ Head Tattoo/stitches

Both Urauma and Kenjaku seem to have known Sukuna in his past life, but their connection is still too vague to make sense of. The Shibuya Incident proves that Sukuna and Urauma were close in their past life, as the King of Curses seems surprised to see the white haired monk on the opposite side of the battle field. The sorcerer hiding within Suguru Geto's body is even more mysterious than Sukuna, but time will surely tell the tale of both Kenjaku and Sukuna.
