The first footage from the upcoming Jujutsu Kaisen 0 prequel movie has been released.

The new trailer was revealed today following a countdown timer appearing on the movie's official website. The new footage showcases the prequel movie's protagonist, Yuta, along with the spirit that protects him, Rika. The highly anticipated film is scheduled to premiere on Dec. 24 and is being produced by studio MAPPA, who also animated the first season of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime, as well as other series such as Attack on Titan and the upcoming anime adaptation of Chainsaw Man.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is the story of Yuta Okkotsu, a young man who is haunted by the spirit of a young girl he was once in love with, Rika. Unfortunately for the young couple, Rika's spirit has become a Curse, a malevolent spirit that feeds on humanity's negative emotions. While Rika originally wanted to protect Yuta, her spirit has now become a malicious beast that hurts anyone who gets close to him. Not wanting to see anyone else get hurt, Yuta takes a self-imposed exile until he is brought to Jujutsu High, where he learns how to control Rika's power and uses it to combat other dangerous Curses. While this prequel does not feature Jujutsu Kaisen protagonist Yuji Itadori, many other popular characters from the main series, such as Satoru Gojo and Toge Inumaki, do appear in the story.

Season 2 of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime is also currently in production but has no scheduled release date. The manga will resume publication this August, following a two-month hiatus that was initiated over concerns surrounding series creator Gege Akutami's health.
