As Japan celebrates April Fools' Day this year, popular anime series like Jujutsu Kaisen and Love Live! are pranking their fans with hilarious parodies.Fans of Jujutsu Kaisen were surprised to see the dark fantasy series crossover with the cute and cuddly Pui Pui Molcar. Pui Pui Molcar is a two-minute stop-motion anime series about sentient vehicles that are an amalgam of cars and guinea pigs. A trailer for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 was recently released, teasing fans with the early exploits of Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto as high school students in the year 2006. Anime viewers won't have to wait long, as Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 will premiere on July 6.
World Dai Star, the upcoming "theatrical girls" multimedia project, engaged in some April Fools' hijinks as well. The series released a new promotional poster that strongly resembles another anime series from Bandai Namco Filmworks. The poster is a parody of the Love Live! Sunshine!! isekai anime Genjitsu no Yohane: Sunshine in the Mirror. Set in the 20th century, the World Dai Star anime takes place in a world where Dai Star stage performers are a worldwide phenomenon. 16-year-old Kokona ÅŒtori auditions for the Sirius theatrical troupe, hoping to become a World Dai Star. The new anime series will premiere on April 9.
Just like World Dai Star, Genjitsu no Yohane: Sunshine in the Mirror parodied another isekai anime by releasing a new promotional image. As anime fans have noticed, the composition of Aqours is similar to the visual for That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime. The anime staff for Genjitsu no Yohane: Sunshine in the Mirror also released a trailer for a video game based on the series, presented as a retro, 2D side-scroller. Of course, with this being April Fools, the video game tie-in is just a gag. However, the anime announcement for Genjitsu no Yohane: Sunshine in the Mirror previously presented as an April Fools gag before becoming a real thing.
Genjitsu no Yohane: Sunshine in the Mirror will air in July. Various anime series based on the Love Live! School Idol Project franchise are available to stream on Crunchyroll.
