Jujutsu Kaisen definitely has a strong main character in Yuji Itadori, whose selfless attitude and endless courage make him one of the most likable shonen protagonists out there. Plus, he's supported by a fantastic main cast, including the endearingly unhinged Nobara, the resident straight man Megumi, and Gojo, who is, well, Gojo.

However, it's the colorful cast of side characters that truly make the series: the villains, the Tokyo Jujutsu High upperclassmen, and the students and staff of Kyoto Jujutsu High, among others. And while every viewer will have their own favorite, one of the very best is the sardonic salaryman Kento Nanami, whose attitude and prowess against curses make him stand out from the rest.

10 His Hilarious Relationship With Gojo

It's no secret that Yuji's ultra-powerful mentor, Satoru Gojo, is one of the series' most beloved characters, but it's Gojo's dynamics with other characters that makes him such an asset to the show, as well as his individual skills and hilarious personality.

Nanami and Gojo's friendship is definitely a case of "opposites attract," as evidenced by Nanami's long-suffering attitude towards Gojo, but that's what makes it so fun to see them interact. The pair are responsible for one of the funniest Juju Strolls ever made, after all.

9 His Unique Innate Technique

In a world filled with sorcerers wielding unique Innate Techniques, Nanami's stands out as being one of the most interesting: by dividing an object with ten lines, Nanami can land a devastating critical hit on the seven-to-three ratio point. This can be used on everything from powerful curses and massive walls to an individual limb.

This technique works so well because it's both visually interesting, with the diagrams of the divisions allowing for pauses in otherwise chaotic fight scenes, and because it fits Nanami perfectly, given his analytical and exacting personality.

8 His Sharp Fashion Sense

Looks aren't everything, but Nanami's stylish twist on a salaryman's daily attire — complete with a spotted tie to match his weapon and some very fancy sunglasses — does win him some extra style points.

Nanami's fashion sense is especially welcome in a show like Jujutsu Kaisen, where the majority of the characters wear variations on the same plain black uniform. By wearing something very different, Nanami immediately identifies himself as having a contrasting attitude from Gojo and the other older sorcerers. It takes a special kind of person to exorcise curses while wearing a suit and tie.

7 His Awesome Binding Vow

Nanami Kento reserves his cursed energy until he goes into overtime

Like most jujutsu sorcerers, Nanami has made a Binding Vow with himself that means that, by revealing his cursed technique to the enemy, it's strengthened. When Nanami invokes this during a battle with Mahito, then Mahito and the audience alike are sure to think that this is his big reveal of the battle.

But then Nanami hits Mahito with one of the coolest lines in the series: "I'm going into overtime now." As it turns out, Nanami has made a Binding Vow to himself that sees him restrict his cursed energy output while "on the clock" for Tokyo Jujutsu High — but when 6 PM rolls around, it's a different story. Seeing Nanami pull off his tie and drop the salaryman persona has to be one of Jujutsu Kaisen's most satisfying moments.

6 His Mentorship Of Yuji

Nanami's cool-headed seriousness makes him the perfect fit with the hot-headed, boisterous Yuji in battle, but that's not the only reason it's fun to watch the two characters bounce off one another. Yuji obviously learns a lot from Nanami's quieter, more dedicated style, and meeting him really makes Yuji develop as a character.

It also means that Gojo isn't Yuji's only mentor, making him seem to fit into the world of jujutsu sorcerers in a very natural way, as he forms connections outside of the main cast.

5 His Deadpan Attitude

Jujutsu Kaisen is full of characters whose blood runs a little on the hot side, including, Yuji, Todo, and Nobara. Then there's Gojo, who might be laid-back, but is far from a quiet personality.

And then there's Nanami, who contrasts the rest of the cast by taking a purely businesslike approach to his work — and everything else. This cool stoicism makes him seem all the more awesome in battle, as he fights some of the most powerful curses out there without a hair going out of place.

4 His Hidden Kindness

Because Nanami has such a stern personality, the flashes of kindness he occasionally shows make even more of an impact. Moments like him comforting Yuji after he had to kill transfigured humans prove that he's got more of a heart than he lets on.

As much as Nanami claims that he went back to exorcising curses just because it was "less idiotic" than working as a salaryman, and treats it just like an office job, it's obvious that he really does care about helping people.

3 The Fact He Left Tokyo Jujutsu High

Most of the action in Jujutsu Kaisen revolves around Tokyo Jujutsu High, with most of the jujutsu sorcerers Yuji encounters throughout the story being either staff or fellow students there or at the Kyoto sister school.

Nanami is, therefore, one of the few characters who actively chose to leave the school after graduating, although he came back to the world of jujutsu sorcerers after a while. This makes Nanami seem like something of an outsider among the cast— and all the more interesting because of it.

2 How Relatable He Is

There aren't many beaten-down salarymen in shonen anime, but Nanami shows why characters with more ordinary backgrounds can be the most interesting. While there probably aren't any viewers out there who are jujutsu sorcerers, plenty of fans can relate to Nanami's dissatisfaction with his soul-crushing office job. And who doesn't get annoyed by being asked to work overtime?

Not only does his reliability make viewers root for him even more, but it also makes watching him on the show a welcome bit of escapism as they put themselves in his very sensible dress shoes.

1 His Understated, Incredible Fighting Ability

Nanami might not be as powerful as his friend Gojo, but, under his cool exterior, he still hides some of the most impressive fighting skills of any jujutsu sorcerer. As well as being a Grade 1 Sorcerer, he held the record for the most Black Flashes in a row until Yuji tied his score — even though, typically, he brushed that achievement off as luck.

It's extremely cool to watch someone who outwardly seems pretty "normal" actually be one of the most powerful characters in the entire series. Nanami provides some of the show's most exciting moments, making him a side character who no viewer will forget.
