While Shonen Jump is now celebrating the fourth anniversary of the publication of Jujustu Kaisen's first chapter in March 2018, it's worth noting that the first story set in the series' continuity was first published a year earlier. In the 2017 manga originally entitled Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School, Gege Akutami introduced readers to Jujutsu High and the world of sorcerers and Curses. This early work introduced many of the concepts and characters, including Yuta Okkotsu and the teacher Satoru Gojo, that would later be expanded upon in Akutami's 2018 series. The manga was later renamed to Jujutsu Kaisen 0 to reflect its connection to Akutami's later smash hit. The prequel story was adapted in the series' first movie, which was released in Japan last December and internationally in March. The movie was the top box-office performer in Japan for 2021 and is now already one of the top 10 highest-grossing anime movies of all time.

In addition to the new video, the series is marking its fourth anniversary with a number of merchandise giveaways in Japan, as well as new cover art that debuted on the most recent issue of Weekly Shonen Jump.

The main Jujutsu Kaisen series tells the story of Yuji Itadori, a high school student who is as selflessly kind as he is unusually strong. After his friends accidentally unleash a powerful Curse — a monster created by the negative emotions of humanity — at their school, Yuji consumes an ancient relic in order to save them, and unwittingly becomes the new, living prison for the soul of Ryomen Sukuna, an evil sorcerer whose soul was sealed away long ago. Now pulled into the conflict between Curses and the sorcerers who stop them from preying on humanity, Yuji must learn how to control Sukuna's powers before the ancient sorcerer takes control of him.

The Jujutsu Kaisen manga is available in English from VIZ Media. The first season of the anime is available for streaming on Crunchyroll. A second season of the show has been confirmed to be in production and is currently scheduled to premiere in 2023.
