What Is Suguru Geto’s Cursed Technique in Jujutsu Kaisen?

Geto’s Cursed Technique is Cursed Spirit Manipulation, an incredibly rare ability that allows him to summon and manipulate bona-fide cursed spirits as freely as other sorcerers do shikigami. Like other cursed techniques, Spirit Manipulation has some specific rules attached. Geto only has access to cursed spirits he’s previously absorbed after defeating them in battle, but he can instantly take control of weaker cursed spirits in his vicinity. Once Geto absorbs a curse, their cursed energy is added to his own, effectively making him stronger after every successful exorcism.

After defeating or weakening a curse, Geto begins the process of absorbing them by creating a spherical mass of cursed energy in his palms and sucking the curse into it. Once the curse is fully integrated into the ball, Geto completes the absorption by swallowing the ball. When the villain swallows a curse, his control over it is absolute. It doesn’t matter how weakened he is, or his distance from the curse, it will always act in accordance to his wishes when released. The only curses immune to this process are those with extraordinarily high cursed energy or those with any pre-existing relationships with other living sorcerers.

Geto can release each of his curses individually to wreak havoc on their own, or combine all the spirits he possesses with his Maximum technique called Uzumaki. So far, Uzumaki has been showcased in two forms: an attack that transforms all of Geto’s spirits into pure cursed energy which he then fires at his opponents, and a more passive form that Kenjaku acknowledged as the technique’s true value. When Cursed Spirits with a higher level than Grade 1 are incorporated into Uzumaki, Geto can extract their own cursed techniques and use it as if they were his own.

How Geto’s Cursed Technique Influenced His Descent Into Evil

Geto in Jujutsu Kaisen 0

Jujutsu Kaisen's Cursed spirits are the manifestation of negative emotions like fear, disgust and hate for human beings. Since regular humans have no knowledge of cursed energy or how to control it, they often inadvertently release small pools of it when experiencing negative emotions; when enough emotion and cursed energy is directed at a particular place or phenomenon, a cursed spirit is born embodying it. No one understood this creation process better than Geto, and he resented humanity for creating such foul creatures.

Geto’s years of collecting and ingesting curses were enough to give him a healthy dislike of curses and humanity as a whole. He described the taste of a curse as akin to eating a vomit-soaked rag, but he had no other alternatives to increase his power. He viewed humanity as weak and an inferior species to jujutsu sorcerers, and opposed the status quo that had sorcerers discreetly protecting humans from their own literal demons.

Geto grew weary of the endless cycles of defeating and ingesting curses and dreamed of a world free of them. This was a laudable goal on its own but, since curses were born of human emotions, the only way the extinction of curses would be sustainable was if regular humans no longer existed either. Since Geto already had plenty of disdain for humans, he had no qualms about the implications of his goal.
