WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Juggernaut #3, by Fabian Nicieza, Ron Garney, Matt Milla, & VC's Joe Sabino, on sale now.

Unlike his half-brother Charles Xavier, Cain Marko doesn't derive his superpowers and abilities from an X-gene or any other innately natural traits, as he is not a mutant himself. Instead, he derives his power from an external source: The Crimson Gem of Cyttorak. The longtime X-Men villain recently had his magical powers stripped from him by Magik just before the X-Men assembled on Krakora, which left him alone and trapped in a pocket dimension to answer for his villainous deeds.

And as Juggernaut has made his grand return to the main Marvel Universe in search for redemption, Cain recalls how he obtained his new set of armor and renewed connection to Cyttorak, with his ties to the demigod running deeper than he initially thought in Juggernaut #3.

Trapped in this limbo state, Cain had to sacrifice his original set of armor to learn where he had to venture next to regain his strength and escape. However, Cain's next globe-spanning voyage took to the mountains of North Korea and the Forge of Cyttorak where the demigod's powers were channeled to create magical weapons for his champions.

While the elderly overseer watching over the forge is unwilling to create a way for Cain to regain his powers, the forge is revealed to have a mind of its own linked to Cyttorak himself. The Crimson Bands of Cyttorak manifest themselves and wrap around Cain's body to form his mythical new armor, evidently restoring his connection to Cyttorak and granting him the strength that had been cruelly taken from him.

Since making his way back to the outside world, Cain has certainly been keeping busy and putting his restored powers to the test. While working alongside Damage Control and his new partner D-Cell, the Juggernaut faced down the Immortal Hulk for a brutal rematch to see which of the two hard-smashing figures would emerge as the true strongest there is. And when Cain faces the latest iteration of the supervillain Quicksand, Juggernaut demonstrates how his new connection to Cyttorak works as he summons the armor to form around himself in a matter of second and quickly get to smashing.

Juggernaut Building

Cain is hardly the only avatar of Cyttorak to represent his demigod's will on Earth. While serving in Korea in the American military alongside Xavier, Cain discovered the Crimson Gem of Cyttorak hidden in a remote cave that housed the Temple of Cyttorak. Snatching the ruby for himself and reading a nearby inscription, Cain bonded with it but was trapped in the cave as it collapsed around him due to enemy shelling. Surviving due to his newfound powers Cain became a sworn enemy of the X-Men and his half-brother as the Juggernaut. The Gem would find different avatars to channel its power, including Colossus, but eventually would re-bond with Cain before it was temporarily stripped from him by a demon-possessed Magik.

The full extent of Cain Marko's renewed connection with Cyttorak has yet to be explored, but the sentient Crimson Bands of Cyttorak choosing to bond with Cain despite the forge master's wishes indicate that the Juggernaut is still the demigod's preferred avatar on Earth. Cain Marko managed to emerge from a pocket dimension and find a new way to reach full power, ready to seek redemption on his own terms. And with the apparent support of Cyttorak, the Juggernaut is unstoppable once again as he takes on the mightiest figures within the Marvel Universe.
