WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Juggernaut #3 by Fabian Nicieza, Ron Garney, Matt Milla, and VC's Joe Sabino, on sale now.

Even though he's turning over a new leaf, Juggernaut, Cain Marko, was one of the most powerful and unstoppable supervillains in the Marvel Universe. After being banished to Limbo in Matthew Rosenberg and Salvador Larroca's Uncanny X-Men #21, Marko eventually found his way back into the world and is working hard to prove he has reformed his villainous ways. Marko has been working with Damage Control demolishing condemned buildings wrecked in superhero fights and has already gone toe-to-toe with the Hulk. But now, the Juggernaut is facing one of his biggest challenges yet: the legal system.

But as Juggernaut #3 reveals, Marko has one of Marvel's best lawyers by his side, Bernie Rosenthal, Captain America's ex-girlfriend.

Bernie Rosenthal

Juggernaut is on trial for the millions of dollars he has caused in damages over the years and for bankrupting Carmine Angelo's construction company. The prosecutor argues that the surplus of cement that was used by Spider-Man to stop Juggernaut led to the demise of the construction company. However, Rosenthal argues that it was in fact Spider-Man who is to blame for using up all the cement. "Cain Marko did not release the plaintiff's inventory of cement, which led to his bankruptcy," Rosenthal argues to the court. "Spider-Man did that!"

Bernadette "Bernie" Rosenthal wasn't always a lawyer known as the "RBG of the superhero set," but was initially introduced as Captain America's love interest. Rosenthal was created by Roger Stern and John Byrne and debuted in Captain America #247. She is a woman of Jewish heritage who was one of the most talented glassblowers in New York City and owned and operated her own shop, Rosenthal's Glass Menagerie, in Greenwich Village.

Engaged to be married to Captain America at one point, Rosenthal left both Steve Rogers and New York to attend law school at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. She went on to become a successful lawyer, maintaining her friendship with Rogers, and even defended Bucky Barnes in Captian America #612, by Ed Brubaker, Butch Guice, and Elizabeth Breitweiser, when he was charged by the Federal Government for his former actions as the Winter Soldier.

Bernie Rosenthal has no superpowers or superhuman abilities but she turned out to have a natural aptitude for the law and excelled in the courtroom. While she hasn't been a regular fixture of the Marvel Universe since she and Captain America split up, Bernie is still one of the more accomplished supporting characters from Captain America's cast.

While Juggernaut certainly still has a lot to atone for, Rosenthal is the perfect person to argue his case. And if she could get the Winter Soldier off with time served, then there's no doubt she'll be able to work her courtroom magic to help free Cain Marko.
