"Young Avengers" fans might see a member of that team make their Marvel Cinematic Universe debut according to recent comments made by Judy Greer. In an interview with HeyUGuys, the "Archer" and "Arrested Develoment" actress finally revealed her role in Marvel Studios' upcoming "Ant-Man" feature film.
"I'm Paul Rudd's estranged ex-wife," said Greer, referencing Rudd's titular role as Scott Lang. "We have a daughter together and our relationship is, well, estranged, but I feel like my character is still rooting for him to succeed. I guess that's about as much as I can say."
While Scott Lang's wife has never made much of an impact in the comics, his daughter Cassie Lang became a major player when she debuted as the size-changing superhero Stature in 2005's "Young Avengers" #1. She became a mainstay of that teen team and later joined the team of adult heroes featured in Dan Slott's run on "Mighty Avengers" in 2009. Stature died in battle in 2011's "Avengers: The Children's Crusade" #8, but that has not diminished the Young Avengers fandom's love of the character.
Given the ages of Rudd and Greer (45 and 39, respectively), it's unclear just how old "Ant-Man's" Cassie will be or how big of a part she will play in the film. Relatively little is still known about the film and no finished footage has been released yet; however, six-year-old actress Abby Ryder Forston is listed in an unknown role on the film's IMDB page. "Ant-Man" is known to include extensive flashback scenes, so it is also possible that Forston is playing a younger version of an older character.
"Ant-Man" opens on July 17, 2015.
