A federal judge has dealt a blow to porn producer Axel Braun, dropping 7,097 unidentified defendants accused of pirating Batman XXX: A Porn Parody. Only one defendant remains.

Filed in November, the lawsuit -- described as the largest single BitTorrent suit -- asked for the judge to allow the discovery of the unidentified defendants (John Does) through subpoenas to the Internet service providers. But U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey, who earlier in December threw out 5,462 unnamed defendants in similar suits, ruled last week (NSFW) that it's improper to include all of the Does in one complaint if there's no evidence that they acted together. He also cited the likelihood that each defendant would have a different defense. Techdirt offers some analysis.

Released in May, Batman XXX is, as the title suggests, a pornographic parody of the 1960s TV series that centers on the kidnapping of Bruce Wayne's girlfriend Lisa Carson by The Riddler. Check out Comic Book Resource's interview with Axel Braun about the video's release.
