Speaking with JoBlo, the Thor: Ragnarok actor discussed fan demand for him to reprise the role of Judge Dredd. "I would dearly love to have the opportunity to get in there and play that again," said Urban, who played the iconic Judge in the 2012 film. "There are so many wonderful stories in the 2000 A.D./Judge Dredd canon that we’d be remiss not to have the opportunity to tell them. If it were up to me personally we would have been making Dredd 2 two years ago."

Urban also addressed the status of the planned television series, Mega-City One, announced in May 2017. "The rights holders [producer Brian Jenkins and Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley] are in their process of developing their show called Mega-City One and we’ve had many discussions and the ball’s in their court," he said. "Hopefully, they get it together and are able to deliver more of what the audience wants and it would certainly be a privilege and a pleasure to be a part of it."

Director Pete Travis' Dredd was a box office bomb that nevertheless earned a cult following that's persistently campaigned for Urban to return to the title role. The actor himself has repeatedly expressed interest in returning to Mega-City One, explaining last fall, "I certainly wouldn’t want to step into it and just pay lip service to the movie. There has to be some material there that warrants further exploration of that character.”
