The new Judge Dredd movie is further distancing itself from the stench of Sylvester Stallone’s 1990s adaptation with one very crucial move — dropping the Judge from its title altogether.
IM Global has updated its website with new information about the forthcoming Karl Urban-starring adaptation, including the fact that the movie will simply be titled Dredd. The updated plot synopsis reads as follows:
DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of the elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Pete Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s revered comic strip.
In further Dredd news, Bored to Death and Juno actress Olivia Thirlby has joined the cast as Judge Cassandra Anderson, the psychically powered trainee working under Dredd’s supervision.
