Production on Lucasfilm's Skeleton Crew has already begun.

According to a report by The Bespin Bulletin, the mysterious Star Wars series coming to Disney+ and starring Jude Law began filming in late June at Manhattan Beach Studios in Manhattan Beach, CA. The studio has served as the production home for several Star Wars Disney+ shows, including The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Book of Boba Fett and the upcoming Ahsoka series. Additional filming will take place in Culver City and California State University in Dominguez, CA.

Announced at Star Wars Celebration 2022, Skeleton Crew was co-created by Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts, who serves as executive producer alongside his frequent collaborator Christopher Ford. The Mandalorian's Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni will serve as co-executive producers.

While details on the series remain under wraps, Lucasfilm described the project as "a galactic version of classic Amblin coming-of-age adventure films of the '80s". Its protagonists will be children living in a period following the events of 1983's Star Wars: Episode VI -- Return of the Jedi as they get lost in space and try to find their way back home. Law is the only actor currently attached to the Disney+ series and his role has not been disclosed. But the production is currently seeking four children between the ages of 11 and 12 to co-star with Law.

Skeleton Crew is one of several new Star Wars projects in the works for Disney+. Diego Luna's Andor series will debut on Disney+ on Aug. 31 with a two-episode premiere. New seasons of The Mandalorian and The Bad Batch are in production, while Rosario Dawson's Ahsoka series will hit Disney+ in 2023. Other planned Disney+ projects in the works include Star Wars: Visions Season 2, Lando, The Acolyte and Young Jedi Adventures.

On the theatrical front, the future of Star Wars appears less certain. A planned Star Wars movie from Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi was reported to not be a done deal yet. "I'm trying to write the 'Star Wars' idea at the moment," Waititi said. "I've got to see how that goes, because once I submit it, that might determine when it gets made or if it gets made, even." Additionally, Patty Jenkins' Rogue Squadron remains delayed indefinitely while a separate project from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige remains in a similarly vague development stage.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew does not yet have a release date on Disney+.
