Josie and the Pussycats may be a fictional band, but that doesn’t mean you can’t see them in concert.
Mondo Tees, Birth.Movies.Death. and the Alamo Drafthouse have banded together for a spectacular Josie and the Pussycats screening to celebrate the upcoming vinyl re-issue of the 2001 film’s soundtrack. Guests at the event include directors Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan, along with Josie and Alan M. themselves, Rachel Leigh Cook and Gabriel Mann. Additionally, Letters to Cleo front-woman and Josie’s singing voice, Kay Hanley, will perform a special Josie and the Pussycats set live before a screening of the film.
Calm your beating, teenage heart and take a look back at the cult-classic’s seminal anthem:
For those who haven’t seen the 2001 film, you maybe confused about all this hoopla. But anyone who’s seen the surprisingly smart sendup to the original Archie Comics is probably booking their tickets now. Along with satire, the film also offers an insanely good cast, that features none other than Marvel-Netflix alum Rosario Dawson, and legitimately rocking music.
“Re-issuing the soundtrack to Josie and the Pussycats has been a holy grail for us,” Mondo Record Label Manager Mo Shafeek said. “Even though the band doesn’t technically exist, it falls on our list of essential debut albums and deserves to be treated as such. It is an absolute honor to reissue it on vinyl for the first time ever.”
The screening and concert will be held at the Ace Hotel in Los Angeles on September 26. You can buy your tickets here.
