Josh Brolin, who portrayed Nathan Summers/Cable in 2018's Deadpool 2, stated he's unclear about his future in the Marvel film franchise -- but isn't worried about it.

"You know, Deadpool worked out very much in my favor," Brolin said during an interview with ACE Universe Presents posted on YouTube. "Deadpool was supposed to be four movies. Maybe there'll be more, I don't know what Marvel has in store. But it turned out to be one really fun movie for me, and I'm good with that."

During the conversation, Brolin also talked about how he gets ready to portray a character like Cable or Thanos on set, noting, "You always bring personal experience, you know."

"I find...I know early on I was in a corner, and if it was a heavy scene, I'd be getting dark in the corner. And then I found that that actually worked against me...And then I found that, especially in drama, that the lighter I am on set, the better it is. Because then I feel like I'm actually going somewhere. And it's a new, and it's an organic and new reaction when I do the scene."

In addition to portraying Cable, Brolin portrayed Marvel villain Thanos in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, 2018's Avengers: Infinity War and 2019's Avengers: Endgame. While Brolin has been vocal about the fact he enjoyed portraying both characters, he admitted in October 2020 that he was given more creative control with Thanos.

"I mentioned [Marlon] Brando in Apocalypse Now, this guy who is very elusive and insane but what he is saying makes sense and is poetical," Brolin said at the time. "I started seeing the parallel which I liked for me [playing Thanos]. I loved being able to resort to a film like Apocalypse Now when I was doing something like Avengers." Brolin added that playing Cable felt more like a "business transaction," explaining, "Even though it was funny, it was harder...it was more, 'We need to make this like this,' which I didn’t feel that way with Avengers."

Brolin will next portray Gurney Halleck in Denis Villeneuve's reboot of the sci-fi film Dune, while Ryan Reynolds recently confirmed that production on Deadpool 3 is very likely to start next year. Specifically, Reynolds said in early August, "We're really actively developing it and getting it into pretty good shape. What the hell month is it? August? Oh, next year? Probably pretty damn good. I'd say 70%."

Written by Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin, Deadpool 3 stars Ryan Reynolds. The film has yet to receive a release date.
