Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who played the successor to Batman in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, had an honest response to the idea of returning to the DC Universe for a team-up with Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck in The Flash.
"That's a really, really funny question," Gordon-Levitt told Jake's Takes when asked if he'd be willing to play Robin or Nightwing alongside Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton, who are both reprising their roles as Batman in the upcoming film. "I have no idea. I'm, to be perfectly honest, completely out of touch with everything you just said."
"I really want to see you suit up as Robin or Nightwing," Hamilton said, joking that he would get Gordon-Levitt up to speed on all of the DCEU's developments. "I think it would be awesome."
"Hey, that sounds great," Gordon-Levitt responded.
Gordon-Levitt played the part of Gotham City police office John Blake in The Dark Knight Rises. Introduced as a cop who discovered Bruce Wayne's secret identity and was determined to aid the Dark Knight, Blake bore the legal name Robin, as revealed in the movie's finale. One of the last scenes in The Dark Knight Rises showed him ascending a platform in the Batcave.
The Flash will feature multiple versions of the Dark Knight in what is expected to be an introduction to the Multiverse, inspired by the Flashpoint comic book story arc.
Keaton, who starred in Tim Burton's Batman and Batman Returns, will reportedly return as an elderly version of the Caped Crusader, while Affleck will also appear as the more modern DCEU Batman. Affleck and Keaton will be joined by Sasha Calle, who plays Supergirl, while Ezra Miller will reprise his role as the Flash.
Directed by Andy Muschetti and starring Ezra Miller, The Flash arrives in theaters Nov. 4, 2022.
