Trading one island for another, former Lost actor Jorge Garcia is teaming up with J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot once again for a starring role in the production company's Alcatraz series.
Deadline reports that Garcia has joined the cast of the new Fox series, which centers on a group of missing Alcatraz prisoners, guards and others who reemerge in the present day. The show, which is "about secrets and the most infamous prison of all time," follows a group of FBI agents that are tasked with tracking down the reemerged Alcatraz vets and unraveling the mystery behind their disappearance thirty years earlier.
For his part, Garcia is taking a cue from the DHARMA Initiative with the role of Doctor Diego Soto, a "hippy geek" and the world's leading expert on all things Alcatraz. Just as Garcia was the first actor cast on Lost, he's the first actor cast on Alcatraz. Furthermore, Deadline reports that producers didn't approach any actors aside from Garcia for the role, as was the case in his casting as Hurley on the recently concluded ABC series.
Garcia's latest job makes him the third Lost actor to score a new gig within the Bad Robot family. Terry O'Quinn and Michael Emerson are co-starring in an NBC project tentatively titled Odd Jobs, in which they play a pair of retired black ops agents.
