As Us opens in theaters everywhere this weekend, Jordan Peele's follow-up to Get Out has surpassed initial estimates and is poised to have a record-breaking opening.
After earning $7.4 million in Thursday night previews and and $28.6 million from its full opening day, industry analysts have increased their projections for the horror film and now expect it to earn as much as $68 million at the domestic box office.

This would surpass last year's A Quiet Place's $50.2 million, making Us' opening the highest ever for an original horror movie. Additionally, these projections would give Us the highest-earning opening for an original R-rated film ever, surpassing Ted, which earned $54.4 million in 2012. This opening is also the second-highest of the year, behind Captain Marvel, which opened to $153.4 million domestically three weeks ago. It's also the highest-opening ever for an original live-action title in March.
Us is well on its way to taking the top spot at the box office this weekend, with Captain Marvel estimated to earn $33.9 million domestically its third weekend. This would give Us the third-highest earning opening ever for a horror movie, over World War Z's $66.4 million and behind It's $123.4 million and last year's Halloween revival's $76.2 million openings.

In theaters now, Us is written, directed and produced by Jordan Peele. The film stars Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke, Elisabeth Moss, Anna Diop, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Kara Hayward, Tim Heidecker and Shahadi Wright Joseph.
