Netflix has released the first teaser for Wendell & Wild, an upcoming stop-motion horror film from the delightfully wicked minds of Henry Selick (Coraline) and Jordan Peele (Get Out).

"Everyone's got demons. My demons have names," says troubled teenager Kat Elliot, voiced by Lyric Ross, at the end of the first teaser for Wendell & Wild. The film, which is the latest directorial effort from visionary director Henry Selick, stars the voices of Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele as the titular demons, who "escape the Underworld and find themselves in a town where they must evade demon-duster teenager Kat, who is trying to destroy them."

Peele also co-wrote the film's script with Selick and Clay McLeod Chapman, which was based on an unpublished book by Selick and Chapman. Wendell & Wild marks the first feature film Selick has directed since 2009's Coraline, which was based on the 2002 Neil Gaiman novel of the same name. Selick is also known for directing the beloved 1993 stop-motion musical The Nightmare Before Christmas, the 1996 musical fantasy film James and the Giant Peach and the 2001 black comedy fantasy film Monkeybone.

Selick previously explained how excited he was to work with Peele on the project. "I reached out to him [Peele] and talked about the idea for the project, and meeting and getting to collaborate with him as well as Keegan-Michael Key, has been a dream come true for me,” Selick said of the project. "Wendell and Wild was an old idea for me, and Jordan wanted to come on as more than just voice talent. He wanted to collaborate, to be a producer, to work on story and writing, and the project has changed in so many good ways as a result of working with him.”

Could a Coraline Sequel Be Selick's Next Project?

While Selick has not announced any future projects at this time, fans of the acclaimed director remain hopeful that he will direct sequels to either Coraline or The Nightmare Before Christmas, despite follow-ups for both films not officially being in the works. "People have always wanted a sequel for Nightmare and Coraline," Selick said in Aug. 2022. "If there’s a good story, it might be worth doing. But too frequently, sequels are just a remake of the first film with some mild changes." Gaiman has also remained adamant that Coraline 2 will only happen if he can "come up with a story that was as good as Coraline."
