Chris McKay, who previously directed last year's The LEGO Batman Movie and is still attached to helm a Nightwing film for the DCEU, has signed on to direct a live-action adaptation of the classic action-adventure cartoon Jonny Quest.

The film will be produced and distributed by Warner Bros. who serve as the parent company for the Hanna-Barbera animation studio where Jonny Quest was first created by Doug Wildey in 1964.

The popular animated series followed its titular boy hero who traveled the world with his scientist father Benson Quest, bodyguard Race Bannon, and adopted brother Hadji in all sorts of adventures that put them directly in harm's way. The property has since spun off into various forms of merchandising, two revival animated series in 1986 and 1996, and recently the comic book series Future Quest published by DC Comics, written by Jeff Parker, and illustrated by Evan "Doc" Shaner.

While this puts the future of the Nightwing film in question, McKay had assured fans two weeks ago that the project was not dead.

There is currently no announced cast or release date for Jonny Quest. In the meantime, McKay's next project is expected to be a Dungeons & Dragons film for Paramount expected to be released on July 23, 2021.
