Now that Roberto Orci no longer helming Star Trek 3, Paramount Pictures is looking for a replacement. Star Trek: The Next Generation veteran Jonathan Frakes thinks he'd be great for the job, although he concedes it's "a long shot."

Speaking with Seattle's KOMO News, the director of Star Trek First Contact and Star Trek Insurrection couldn't hide his eagerness to return to the franchise. "Hashtag, BringInRiker!" Frakes said. "I'm all over it. I'm all over it."

He said he's reached out to producer J.J. Abrams, and his representative is attempting to speak with the studio about the gig.

"I say, unabashedly, I'd be great at it and would love to do it," Frakes said, adding, "I'm trying to keep the lid on how excited I am about the possibility, knowing it's such a long shot. But there's nothing I would like better."

Paramount reportedly wants Star Trek 3 to open by 2016 to celebrate the franchise's 50th anniversary.
