Following speculation from no less of a source than Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan himself, Deadline reports that Jonathan Banks will indeed reprise his role as Mike Ehrmantraut on in-development spinoff Better Call Saul. He'll be a series regular, the site states, the only announced casting so far other than Bob Odernkirk, returning to his role as titular criminal lawyer Saul Goodman.

"The character that springs to mind would be Mike," Gilligan told Entertainment Weekly in an interview published late last month, discussing which Breaking Bad characters could appear on Better Call Saul. "That would be a great deal of fun."

Mike appeared through much of Breaking Bad's heavily lauded run, debuting in the 2009 second season finale as a former cop turned cleaner/fixer working for Gustavo Fring and, occasionally, Saul. Banks can currently be seen in a recurring guest role on NBC's Community as Greendale criminology professor Buzz Hickey; like Breaking Bad, a Sony TV production. Better Call Saul is expected to premiere late this year on AMC.
