Kit Harington is returning to HBO as his character Jon Snow for a Game of Thrones sequel series.

Harington will play the lead if the upcoming, which is now in early development, moves forward, reported THR. Although multiple spinoffs of Game of Thrones have been announced, with House of the Dragon soon on its way, Jon Snow will be the first of the characters from the original show to have his story continued in a show set after the events of its series finale.

Game of Thrones, based on the fantasy book series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin, featured Jon Snow as one of the central characters in its sprawling cast. Jon is introduced in the first episode as the bastard son of the honorable Lord Eddard Stark, and soon leaves his home at Winterfell to join the Night's Watch, an isolated military force sworn to protect the kingdom from the human enemies and supernatural threats beyond the Wall. Harington was twice nominated for an Emmy for his performance as Jon, who became an unparalleled warrior and leader despite facing constant betrayal, danger and inner conflict in the bitterly cold lands around the Wall.

At the end of Game of Thrones, Jon is sent into exile from Westeros after killing Daenerys Targaryen, his queen and lover as well as a long-lost blood relative. Although no details about the plot of his spinoff series have yet been revealed, it appears likely that it will focus on his journeys North of the Wall with the wildling people who live there. It also provides an opportunity for other characters who survived the ending of Game of Thrones to make appearances and give fans an update on their own stories.

Harington added the Marvel Cinematic Universe to his filmography in 2021, playing Dane Whitman in the feature film Eternals. Although his character was generally well received, Harington claims that he doesn't yet know if he'll return or if Dane will become the hero Black Knight in accordance with his Marvel Comics storyline.

The first of the Game of Thrones spinoffs in development, House of the Dragon, centers on the dramatic royal Targaryen family and will premiere on August 21. Several other prequels have been announced, generally dealing with the history of Westeros long before the setting of Game of Thrones. These include 10,000 Ships, focusing on the ancient queen Nymeria, and Dunk and Egg, which also examines characters from the Targaryen dynasty.

The Jon Snow sequel series does not yet have a title or release window.
