Jon Hook brings 'Wilde Magick' to Shooting Star Comics

Official Press Release

Alpharetta, Ga. (January 12, 2004) – Writer Jon Hook is no stranger to comics. And after dabbling in the swords and sorcery of fantasy comics with his Archeon series at Digital Webbing, he's now casting his spell over at Shooting Star Comics with his latest creation – "Wilde Magick."

"I remember hearing rumors on a few message boards about a new anthology book being produced," said Hook, "one that would feature new writers and artists, but it also had well-known pros like Chuck Dixon and Denny O'Neil attached to it as well. That was a couple of months before SHOOTING STAR COMICS ANTHOLOGY #1 was announced. I'm very excited to be associated with SSC and the pros who are associated with them too."

"I can't tell you how thrilled we are to have Jon on board with us for SHOOTING STAR COMICS ANTHOLOGY #3," said Shooting Star Comics editor-in-chief Sean Taylor. "I first talked with Jon about working with us in Chicago last year at Wizard World, and sure enough, when his story showed up in the mail, I was absolutely blown away. 'Wilde Magick' continues our run of showcasing engaging new stories by some of the top established and respected comics creators."

"Wild Magick: Ritual of the Fierce Wolf" tells the story of private investigator and witch, Fey Wilde, and her trusted pooch, Somba, who specialize in investigating cases that bridge the conventional laws of man and physics. The story blends modern science with ancient mysticism as together Fey and Somba try to track down a kidnapper who specializes in children. Using her supernatural brand of detective work, she and Somba soon find themselves embroiled in a mystery that could cost them both their lives.

The writer had been letting the story simmer for a while before finding a home for it at Shooting Star.

"This story was one of my earliest forays into comic book storytelling," said Hook, "and my collaboration with artist Sinclair Elliott has much to do with how this story evolved into what will be seen in the pages of SHOOTING STAR COMICS ANTHOLOGY #3. Sinclair is a fantastic artist, and he was able to see beyond just the words in a script and helped the action for each panel and page. I am working on new stories for Fey now, and I hope everyone likes her, and that they would want to see more of her."

"Wilde Magick" appears, along with six other exciting stories from Shooting Star regulars, in SHOOTING STAR COMICS ANTHOLOGY #3, on sale January 28 in fine comics stores everywhere.
