It's probably time for Disney and director Jon Favreau to forget about their worries and their strife, because their live-action remake of 1967's "The Jungle Book" saw a monster opening weekend, drawing $103.6 million at the U.S. box office amid the kind of high critical praise that allows filmmakers, studios, and bears to rest-at-ease.

The reported $175 million production stars newcomer Neel Sethi as Mowgli -- a "man-cub" adopted by wildlife -- in his first featured role, and its $103.6 million pull gave it the third-largest opening weekend of 2016, behind only "Deadpool" and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," according to Variety, who also note that the film was a hit with audiences of all kinds, as 49% of ticket sales were to families, 43% to older adults, 8% to teens, and that the percentage of women and men seeing the film were basically even. Despite the lush, exotic, photo-real locales, the CGI-heavy film was shot entirely in Los Angeles, and features the voice talents of Bill Murray as Baloo, the bear who sings the film's famous "Bare Necessities" song, as well as Idris Elba as Shere Khan, Ben Kingsley as Bagheera, Christopher Walken as King Louie, Lupita Nyong’o as Raksha, Scarlett Johansson as Kaa, and -- in his final role before his recent passing -- comedy legend Gary Shandling as a porcupine.

Disney is reportedly already moving forward with plans for a sequel to the film, which would see the return of Favreau and screenwriter Justin Marks. A Warner Bros. take on the public domain-story, originally penned by Rudyard Kipling, to be directed by Andy Serkis was recently pushed from a planned 2017 release to 2018, after already having been pushed back from its original 2016 date.

The first-place finish for "The Jungle Book" this weekend put it ahead of "Barbershop: The Next Cut," from New Line/MGM and starring Ice Cube, Regina Hall, Nicki Minaj, Common, Cedric the Entertainer, Anthony Anderson, and Eve, which made $20.2 million, good for second place. The Melissa McCarthy-vehicle "The Boss" came in third, with $10.2 in revenue, and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" placed fourth in its fourth weekend of release, with $9 million, giving it $311.3 million in U.S. gross to date (per Variety).

"The Jungle Book" is the latest in Disney's initiative of life-action adaptations of beloved animated classics, with previous releases including 2010's "Alice in Wonderland," 2015's "Cinderella," and 2014's "Maleficent," and the next of which will be "Beauty and the Beast," starring Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as Beast, Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, Josh Gad as LeFou, Luke Evans as Gaston, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette and Kevin Kline as Maurice, which is due in theaters March 17, 2017.

Overseas, where "The Jungle Book" saw release some territories over a week ago, the movie generated $136.1 million over the weekend, good for a foreign box office total of $187.4 and a worldwide gross of $291 million, per The Hollywood Reporter. Domestically, it made for the second-largest April opening weekend ever, behind only the $147.1 million "Furious 7" drew last year, and topping the $95 million opening of "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" in 2014.
