Since he was announced as taking on the role of Frank Castle, Marvel Comics fans have been almost unanimously behind Jon Bernthal as the perfect actor to portray the Punisher. But while his origin arc was one of the high points of Netflix and Marvel's second season of "Daredevil," it's tough to deny that viewers might have felt a twinge of disappointment that it took so long to see the violent vigilante fully embrace his comic book counterpart's skull-emblazoned fashion sense.

If the latest set photos from Bernthal's solo series are any indication, however, Punisher fans are going to be really pleased when the Netflix series debuts later this year. New images from the set of the show, which recently wrapped production, show Bernthal's Castle fully geared up, and just a bit battle-worn with his iconic skull symbol a little worse for wear. But then again, that's pretty much how we ike to see the Punisher, isn't it?

While Netflix has not yet announced a premiere date, we know “The Punisher” is targeted for 2017 release. “The Defenders,” which brings together Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist in an eight-episode miniseries, will arrive first, however, on August 18.
Bernthal is joined in “The Punisher” by Ben Barnes, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Amber Rose Revah, Deborah Ann Woll, Daniel Webber, Jason R. Moore, Paul Schulze, Jaime Ray Newman and Michael Nathanson. Filming is expected to wrap soon, with the series arriving later this year on Netflix.
