SPOILER: The following article contains minor spoilers for The Punisher Season 2, which is available on Netflix now.

Frank Castle is known for his brute strength and relentless ferocity, so of course Jon Benthal had to embrace that part of his character when filming Punisher Season 2.

Castle suffers a hand injury during a fight at the beginning of the season and proceeds to wrap his hand in a self-made cast for following episodes. That's because Bernthal actually broke his hand filming a fight scene. While on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Bernthal opened up about how he broke his hand.

"I like to do all my own stunts. I like to do the fighting myself," Bernthal explained. "I broke my hand in the first fight scene of the season this year. I knew exactly when it happened. It was a three-day fight scene, and it was the first day. I hit somebody. And I'm a boxer, I knew immediately it was broken, but me being the orangutan I am, I didn't say anything to anyone because I didn't want to get pulled. I wanted to stay in the fight. So the very thing I had to do with a broken hand was my man Jordan Scott, our stunt performer, he had to take my hand and bash my broken hand into a table... now I got torn ligaments in my hand."

Bernthal asked his stunt coordinator if he could do subsequent stunts with his left hand instead of his right, but still kept the injury to himself. The stunt coordinator, still not wise to Bernthal's injury, rejected the idea.

"So the next thing I've got to do I've got to kick this guy's leg out and catch him right in my poor hand," Bernthal said. "Now I've dislocated my hand."

On the last day of filming if this first fight scene, Bernthal was supposed to hurl a bar stool at an attacker. He tried to throw the stool, which he was supposed to aim at a mat, with his left hand to very poor results.

"I just chuck that thing... and it had hit that stunt coordinator right in the leg," Bernthal said with a laugh. "So I had somebody to go to the hospital with."

The Punisher Season 2 is streaming now on Netflix, starring Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, Ben Barnes as Billy Russo, Amber Rose Revah as Dinah Madani, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Jason R. Moore as Curtis Hoyle, Josh Stewart as John Pilgrim, Floriana Lima as Krista Dumont and Giorgia Whigham as Amy Bendix.
