WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Batman #98, by James Tynion IV, Jorge Jimenez, Tomeu Morey and Clayton Cowles, available now.

Ever since the start of Joker War, Batman has been put through the wringer: he's lost his fortune, his home and his company. Since then, he's been fighting alone in a Gotham now controlled by the Joker, who gave his followers all of Batman's technology, weapons and vehicles to terrorize the people of the city. To make matters worse, when he first tried to find Joker, Batman faced Punchline instead, who infected him with her upgraded version of Laughing Gas.

Since then, Batman has been out of commission. The poison is proving to be effective, and it causes Batman to hallucinate Alfred Pennyworth, his dear friend whom he recently lost. Thankfully, Batman found an ally in Harley Quinn, who took him to her secret underground cave.

When the Dark Knight finally recovers and gets ready to fight back, he unveils his latest gadget -- and it has the most perfect, obvious name ever.

Batman Joker War Bat-Tery

Writer James Tynion IV took over the Batman title with issue #86. Since then, we've seen plenty of new gadgets and vehicles introduced in the series to allow Bruce Wayne to take his crusade to protect Gotham to the next level. We've seen the unveiling of the transforming Batmobile called the Nightclimber, the miniature sled known as the Bat-Shot, a secret Bat-train located under Gotham City, and even the Echo, a device that can transform any car into a Batmobile. Plus, we've also seen the debut of a new prison called the Black Block and a shiny new suit that Batman has yet to put on.

And now, in Batman #98, the Dark Knight reveals yet another new invention he carries around in his utility belt. This one however is not a secret vehicle or an offensive weapon. No, it's a power reserve -- a battery.

And it's called... the Bat-tery. That's right, Batman took the "bat" from "battery," added a hyphen and made it into one of his iconic gadgets.

Bruce spends most of Batman #98 in a dream state where he talks about his failures to the image of Alfred Pennyworth. During this time, Harley Quinn is fighting Punchline in her cave. Thankfully, Batman's talk with Alfred ends with him purging the toxins of the Laughing Gas out of his system and snapping awake.

After he helps Harley defeat Punchline, he's now ready to go on the offensive and fight the Joker. But in order to do that, he needs to call in the entire Bat-family to come lend a hand.

His last battle with the Joker at the movie theater left his systems fried, but luckily Batman prepares for everything: thanks to the Bat-tery (a small rectangular battery that of course has the bat-symbol on it), he is able to reboot his suit and get his systems back online. Then, he can contact his computer and sends out a call to his entire family.

The Bat-tery is a simple gadget compared to Batman's other recent inventions, but it proves to be incredibly useful. And the best part is it's essentially the most pun-tastic gadget in the character's entire arsenal.
