Though Joker has seen its fair share of criticism leading up to its release, it still managed to dominate both domestic and international box offices. As such, director Todd Phillips recently shared his thanks to everyone that supported the film.
"Thank you to everyone for showing up!!" the director commented on Instagram. "It’s been a bumpy ride but reading your feedback and feeling all the love makes it all worth it. #Joker is everywhere." Phillps comments were shared with an image of Joaquin Phoenix's Arthur Fleck and a caption that reads, "#1 Movie in the World."
Joker has already garnered great success since its theatrical release, earning over $100 million domestically with a global box office haul of $273 million. The film even beat 2018's Venom in having the most successful Thursday premiere in October, and it also won the coveted Golden Lion Award after its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in August.
As it currently stands, the film is ranked "Certified Fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 69% with critics and 90% with audience members. Meanwhile, Metacritic has the film at 58% and its IMDb score is 9/10.
