The Joker begins a new adventure while the origin of Gotham City is explored in the new releases for DC Comics.

Out on Tuesday is The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #1, the start of a new series for the Clown Prince of Crime by writer Matthew Rosenberg and artist Carmine Di Giandomenico. The title serves as a sequel to the previous The Joker series written by James Tynion IV with various artists, which saw the Batman villain trying to take some time away from Gotham City while Jim Gordon, Bane's daughter, and the cannibalistic Sampson family are after him. The Man Who Stopped Laughing is set to follow "mayhem across the United States," and the Joker will have to face Red Hood/Jason Todd -- a hero murdered by the Joker when he was Batman's sidekick -- and an imposter pretending to be the villain.

While the Joker travels the country, Gotham City: Year One also launches this week to tell the locale's dark origin. Written by Tom King with art by Phil Hester and Eric Gapstur, the title will be a six-issue miniseries exploring how the city that Batman defends "became a cesspool of violence and corruption" that allowed for the rise of the Dark Knight's various rogues. Set decades in the past, the story's protagonist will be a private investigator, Slam Bradley, as he looks into the kidnapping of the Wayne family heir.

Outside of Gotham and its villains, also out is the continuation of the Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths event with the release of the series' fifth issue and the Dark Crisis: The Deadly Green one-shot tie-in. Readers can also pick up the penultimate issues of Poison Ivy and Multiversity: Teen Justice, as well as the final one-shot prelude to the upcoming Black Adam film focusing on Pierce Brosnan's Doctor Fate.
