Since the series was first announced, speculation has run high about which members of Batman's rogues gallery would make a pre-Dark Knight appearance on "Gotham." And as the show continued to surprise viewers with versions of several classic villains throughout its freshman season-- along with some major teasing of the Joker -- fans continue to wonder when this villain or that bad guy might make their debut on the show.

With the release of the series' official Season 2 synopsis, Fox may have answered at least a few of those questions. The text, reprinted below, not only confirms Ed Nygma's continued downward spiral, it bluntly states that Mr. Freeze and The Joker will play a role in the upcoming season.

The stakes are higher than ever as Gotham explores the origin stories of some of the most ambitious and depraved Super Villains, including The Riddler, The Joker and Mr. Freeze, and Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) uncovers more secrets from his father's past, in the Season Two debut on Monday, Sept. 21 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT).
